I am teaching myself to knit by watching youtube videos.  I have been at it for about 4 months.  I am almost through knitting this sweater, but I am doing mine in peach.  My only concern is that alot of hand-knitted sweaters have bigger thread than the factory made finely knit ones.  What do you think of sweaters with heavier, bigger thread?  I am just so used to the finely knit factory made ones that I am not sure.  I don't want to be a fashion victim:
Here is the sweater I am knitting:

Can you find a finer knit? or a finer yarn? My only concern is that they tend to look bulky/add weight.

Agree.  That might not be a good sweater for a chunky knit, unlike an Irish  Fishermen's Knit sweater or something like it.  I can see it adding a lot of bulk to the upper torso.

I have to tell you, Bloomie, you just impress the hell out of me with your ability to make your own clothes.  You're so talent!smile

It's a cute sweater, but I think because of the style, it needs to be a finer knit. That bulkier yarn that was used for the sweater would be better suited for a long-sleeved sweater meant for the colder months.

I like it. I could see it working for Fall weather when the weather is really cool in the mornings, but warmer in the afternoons.

I think it depends on the climate you live in. I don't really see it here in LA, too hot for a short sleeve item. Maybe a finer lighter yarn, maybe with the metallic thread in it?

AWWW (blushes)...thank you Boots.  I wish I was better at sewing.  I would love to be able to drape and sew w/o a pattern.
