Started this thread so as not to ruin anything for those who haven't watched it yet.

I still don't think I've absorbed everything!

OK the whole prom thing - so stupid, I can't even care about those teens right now.
Now that I've dismissed that plotline....

UGH I really wanted Kirsten to be seriously injured! Come now, shouldn't they want to send a serious hard-hitting message about the effects of drunk driving? And how could she have been flipped over by a 18-wheeler and escape with just a concussion?! Or are the writers in cahoots with the SUV industry and are trying to brainwash us into thinking SUVs are indestructible tanks that will allow people to get smashed by trucks and just get a little banged up?
But really...I was hoping she would at least be unconscious for an episode or be in a wheelchair for a while. They could have added a home-nurse or physical therapist as a new character!
At least they aren't going to have her magically cured of her problem though. And I loved the scene between Kirsten and Caleb. Angry Kirsten releasing some of her bottled-up WASP rage is always my favorite!

And Caleb! WTF!!!!! Why did they kill him???? It's kind of awesome that they killed off a major character but he was one of my favorites. And Julie Cooper continues to warm my heart. When she saw that he had fallen into the pool and dove in to save him....I actually thought I was going to tear up! I'm pissed that they didn't show her all distraut and trying to do CPR or sobbing while calling 911 though.

Dude, I hope Jimmy Cooper hooks up with either Julie or Kiki while comforting them about Caleb.

Last but not least.....the return of Theresa's and her non-miscarried baby!!! FINALLY!!! Though of course they had to wait until the second-to-last episode. I suppose they are setting up some serious drama for next season.

Eeek! Someone else post a really long response so I don't feel like a total loser.

they had to kill off caleb so that julie could inherit his money/house/business/prestige and remain one of the central characters on the show.  if i am looking at it correctly, it's easier for the show to lose caleb than it is to lose julie/marissa/possibility of jimmy/hailey returning--those characters are all wrapped up with julie, and she's one of the main reasons people watch so they have to keep her.

if caleb had lived, he would definitely have gone through with the divorce, and it woudn't really be credible to keep julie around in the same way that she is now--she would be distanced from the family at least a little and would not be able to afford to keep living in style in newport because he was going to cut her off with nothing.

my prediction: look for a scene early on in next episode where julie will be shown ripping up the divorce papers she signed, and then becoming the dutiful grieving widow.  i heart julie cooper-nichol.

ok, and i agree--total yawn on the kids' prom hijinks.  who cares? i did love summer's makeup and hair in the prom scenes though--she looked so pretty.

by far the best tv so far this week!

i had to take some time out of my insane day to come over here to see if anyone had posted about it yet!

i was, perhaps, my most vocal/interactive with the tv last night as i ever have been for any episode before. i was yelling when trey was lying to ryan and swearing "on mom" and ryan was starting to fall for it! ARGH! i HATE trey! i do love that they had all kinds of slimy characters and pot-stirrers this season and i do think that overall they have made for better tv than that crazy oliver from last season. i'm just so glad that the eps have been getting good for the past couple, because for a while there the season was really lacking.

thrilled about the prospect of theresa being back in the picture, although i hate her (but she has a regular spot on another show, so she probably won't be back for good). i was definitely thinking that ryan would hear the baby crying when she opened the door or something, but when there was nothing i became certain that there would be a finale upset involving this. or maybe this was a kind of closure for that story? perhaps theresa telling ryan to believe marissa is her way of admiting (to herself) that she was over him and really didn't want/need him in her life anymore, even with the baby? maybe she/baby won't be in any other eps? i also thought it was odd that when the mother said "he looks more like his dad every day" (or something like that) that they didn't show the baby. now, this could have been because they didn't pay to have a real baby on set (ha) or... could it be that the baby really looks just like eddy? ha ha. i know i read way more into this whole story that i probably should have... what do i think this is, lost?

and yes, i did actually shed tears as juju jumped into the pool to save caleb. although my first (spoken aloud) comment was "she isn't going to be able to lift him out!" - ha.

i am v. annoyed about the whole kirsten is an alcoholic line - last week i wasn't certain that they were trying to portray her as a true alky, but this week with the rehab - holy cow! are we supposed to believe that she has had a drinking problem all this time? the last time i remember her having a big run-in with alcohol was in the first season when she drank that whole pitcher of margs (or whatever it was, maybe wine?) when something was going on at home and she had the huge hangover the next day and the newpsies all gossiped about her. it seemed like she had been holding her glass of wine here and there for the past year perfectly fine.

ok, i have clearly rattled on for far too long about this show. but i will close with my intense anticipation for jimmy cooper's reappearance! eee!

wow, last night's episode....just WOW.  i can't believe they killed off caleb!  for some reason i didn't see that coming at all.  too bad, i loooooove him and all the evil.  the dynamics will certainly change a great deal without him around.  the last scenes with caleb and julie were fantastic- i was on the edge of my seat as he was about to sip the marg!  and can i just say once again that i am absolutely in love with julie cooper-nichol??  best character on the show, no question.

poor kirsten.  poor sandy.  great storyline.

can't wait for next week!  i'm anticipating some great cliffhangers in the season finale....

I read somewhere that Oliver is supposed to make an appearance in the season finale next week.  I can't really see how he would fit into the storyline but who knows...

I figured they didn't show Theresa's baby because they want to leave us hanging...that story obviously isn't closed yet.  I bet he'll find out about the kid, but I could be wrong.  I think that Theresa gave Ryan up and told him to go back to Marissa because she knew he deserved better than Chino - that was the whole reason she lied about being pregnant at the end of last season too.  I think she would feel too bad if he had to go back and live in Chino when he has this great opportunity in the Newport.

I knew Julie wouldn't be able to go through w/giving that margarita to Caleb, but go figure that he has a heart attack and drowns!  Very good storyline.

Does anyone else think that Kirsten's going to hit the bottle even harder after the death of her father now?  I mean the last words she spoke to him were "at least I won't die alone like you"

I was talking to my friend today and she said that they had to kill Caleb because he's leaving the OC to star on another TV series as one of the main characters, so they basically "had" to kill his character off suddenly.

really, oliver?! i am shocked.  i thought everyone agreed that was the worst character the show had ever had--i'm surprised they would have him back.

ok, and that line where theresa's mom says all cheesy-like about the baby "he's looking more like his father every day."--um, they don't know who the father is, right?  so unless he is a dead ringer for eddie or ryan, they can't be sure, correct?

what a great episode!  i can't wait for this thursday.  i also have the first season on the way from netflix so i don't go through a painful withdrawal too soon.

do you guys think julie was trying to kill caleb, or just make him sleep a long time so he couldn't turn in the divorce papers on time?  i teared up too when she jumped in the pool to save him.  i'd also read that he was going to be on a new show, so i wasn't surprised when he was killed off, although i am surprised the actor would want to leave for a series that has an uncertain future (i.e., i think he was just in a pilot for a new show).

i don't think we saw theresa's baby because they want to keep us hanging about who the father is.  smash, when the door opened i was also totally expecting to hear a crying baby or something too!

it's time for trey to go back to jail, and also for marissa to finally tell ryan what really happened.  and while the prom stuff was annoying i am glad that seth and summer finally seemed to be getting along and happy to be together.

the kirsten/caleb/sandy story is so chilling!  how awful that she has this final memory of a horrible fight with her father.
