hot rollers recs (for natural looking loose waves)??
Permalink Closed

hi all - i'm looking for some hot rollers to buy so that i can create my own DIY beach-ey curls.  i am actually going to a hairstylest to show me how to do it, but i have to buy the curlers first (they don't use them there).  she said just to get medium to big size rollers at target, but i wanted to check here for specific brand recs.

Thanks!

hm... mine have lasted me forever. I just have like conair or something. I do prefer the hard plastic ones with ribs and big metal clips.

You'll have to share the method with us bc every time I use hot rollers, I lose about 5" of length and end up looking like a 50s housewife with a bouffant 'do.

thanks, girls.  it's been years since i bought hot rollers.  d, i'll look for some like that.  xtina - ha ha!  it was good to read that though, b/c i'm def. going to tell her not to do that with my hair.  i brought her a picture of sienna miller so hopefully that will give her an idea.  i'll def. share the process, and possibly post pics if i have time (although were in the middle of a move so it's not likely).

any other responses welcome (as always)!

XtinaStyles & Metric - when you guys use them, do you shake your curls out at all? I always look ridiculous unless I flip my head upside down and muss it around a bit at the roots. I should say "looked" - I haven't had many successful hot roller days in a year or more. I cannot use them to save my life and I always have to go to my mom's house on big days so she can do it for me ashamed.gif

Eh I just never liked the look at all.  Maybe its the texture of my hair.  I always come out looking like a beauty queen, like I tried so hard, and very dated like this:

I prefer the look of a curling iron.  Also I've tried to shake out and either lose the curl altogether or end up still hating it and using the iron.

Got 'em, did it, and I loved it!!  i totally want to do this at least once a week.  She did such a good job showing me how, and had me do the whole thing over after she did it to make sure I knew how (she wrote it all down for me as well).  The only negative - it was about 50% gone after 2 hrs and totally gone by the end of the night (although it still had body and looked cuter than without the rollers).  the only solution i can think of is to use a stronger hairspray.  she sprayed it with something by aveda - i think it's called "air control"  and she said it was a light spray.  maybe i need something heavier.  any ideas?  my hair has been chemically straightened, which is probably why it didn't hold it very well.

first, please share what she wrote down!

second, I'm a huge fan of aussie sprays. when I curl my hair, or even when I have it straight, I do a light spray of aussome volume. Has great hold, is light, and you don't need to use much.

D - when i get a chance i will def. retype what she wrote down.  thanks for the rec. for aussie sprays.  i used to use "aussie scrunch spray" (?) in college!  is this the same brand - it comes in a purple-ish bottle?  i want to check out your rec. though - is it in a pump or aerosol can?  i feel like an aerosol might be better for all over spray.

pls let me know when you get a chance.  we're moving overseas on sunday so i have to get it now, b/c i won't be abe to get it over there and drugstore.com doesn't ship hairspray!

thanks again!!

Did you shampoo your hair yesterday before your appointment? My hair keeps hot-rollered curls much better with "second-day" hair.

Which rollers did you get?  I tried this too and haven't quite mastered it. I bought the biggest rollers I could find, but it only came with 4 huge rollers and the rest a smaller, but still large.  I guess my hair curls easy b/c it always looks crazy curly.  Maybe I shouldn't leave them in so long?

Can't wait to hear the method.
