what should i get my so for his birthday?

so my boyfriend's birthday is coming up. we've been together for almost 4 years and just bought an apt together. we are going to vieques together for a destination wedding (you know the one i can't stop shopping for! ).

so what should i get him?

- something for our new home? but that's for him.. like a lcd monitor?

- something fun for him.. like a mini ipod? and then he can take it on vacation with us.. and maybe i could also buy him portable speakers.

- he never buys clothes... so maybe new clothes?

- or take him out to a great restaurant? he loves to chow down!

- or try to plan something special while we're on our vacation?... like a special guided tour?

any suggestions would be awesome. i kinda want to get him an ipod but feel like that's sooooooooo been done.

I vote for the mini ipod - and get it engraved with his favorite song lyric or something.  I got my b/f an ipod for x-mas with a cute engraving, and he was very very happy!

I second the mini ipod. My parents got my husband one for Christmas and he loves it!  He uses it every day at work, so I think it was worth the $$.

If you decide not to get an ipod, I think the LCD monitor is a good idea if he's into computers.  Just be careful if he plays a lot of computer games.  A lot of the LCD monitors don't display graphics as well as regular monitors do.

I agree that fun b-day gifts are the best! I like the ipod idea or you could get him a watch from tokyoflash.com. They have really fun stuff! I bought my husband the PIMP watch and he loves it so much (#2).

i feel like the ipod is typical.  i would do something on vacation, like a surprise boat ride and a small gift.  i did something similar for my bf's b-day last year.  we were in MD for a wedding, and they had this discounted art gallery there that has works by an artist that he likes.  so when we were there, i called the art gallery, asked them if they could make up a gift certificate for the amount of the painting that he wanted.  so nonchalantly, i mentioned that the art gallery was close by, and asked if he wanted to go there.  so we walked in, i gave the lady a look, and she approached my bf and handed him the gift certificate.  he was soo freaking excited.  he was sooo surprised (cuz his b-day was two weeks later) and touched that i remembered his e-mails about the paintings and that i did all that (it wasn't that hard though).

it's hard to live up to that, but after seeing his face, i want to.  this might be out of your budget, but my bf is turning 30 next year (i can't believe it!) and so i'm going to have some friends of his on a boat of my friends and i'm cutting the budget by making food and buying alcohol and having my little sister and her friends serve the food/drinks.  (i'm flying two of his friends out for the party, that's why the budget is less for food and drinks).  i think the surprises where you put effort into something means the most.  sorry for the super long post.

I like the iPod idea with maybe an extra like the connector jack for his car?  One yr for my BF who I lived with also, I got him a stereo system thing.  He hooked it up and had a blast doing it, and then we could watch tv and movies with Surround sound effects like in a theater!
