Should I go? What to do?
Permalink Closed

My friend's brother is getting married this coming weekend.  I've only met him and his fiancee recently as my friend just moved back to her parent's house.  This weekend I went to his fiancee's bachelorette party.  At the bachelorette party, another one of our friends told his fiancee that her boyfriend can't make it to the wedding.  So...the seat is open and my friend whose boyfriend can't make it and my friend whose brother it is getting married asked me if I wanted to go to take his place because they can't be reimbursed for that seat at this late time.  At the time, I was just like, "I'll let you know" and thought it would kind of get forgotten about.

So, my friend just left me a message to see if I was going.  I am now debating whether or not I should.  I think it would be fun although I don't know the bride and groom that well because my 2 friends will be there.  However, I have some questions before I decide if I should go:  how much should I give them for a gift?  Should my friend be expected to give a gift on behalf of both of us because it is her boyfriend who couldn't make it?  Is it totally weird for me to go to this wedding in the first place?

Please help!  I would love to hear some opinions before I commit to this.

You should definitely go if you want to. I don't think you have to bring a gift because you didn't get an invite or anything (although don't quote me - some other women on here are much better with etiquette rules), but if you feel weird showing up empty-handed I'm sure there's something really small you can get that they're registered for. Or a pretty picture frame or something.

Go and have fun! It sounds like it'll be fun. And bring a small something if you're feeling weird about it.

go, it sounds like fun and you'll get to meet people outside of your immediate social circle.

as for the gift, look on their registry, pick the most affordable thing and get that.

have fun!

Make a donation to a charitable cause in there name, and keep the receipt for your taxes...

I decided to go.  Both my friends really wanted me to go and the seat was paid for anyway.  Thanks for the gift advice.  My friends were totally clueless about what I should do.  I am going to find something on their registry that is like $50.  I spend that in a night out anyway.
