Was he the groom and he was so late that she married someone else or was he coming to try to stop the wedding and chickened out?  Or is it just open to interpretation?

I assumed she was marrying some other guy but he was her real love and was trying to intervene.  I guess you could leave it up to interpretation though.  I love this commercial.  It gives me goosebumps.

I agree that he is trying to stop them. Call me crazy but I think it is very romantic. I think I have seen too many fairy tales / chick flicks / soap operas in my day!!!!

I think its super romantic!!!!!!  It makes me tear up sometimes, if I imagine "the one that got away, my one true love" running up on my wedding day.  Maybe i've seen too many fairy tales, etc, but this is truly how I think.  I would do that.  I am a diehard romantic.  I love shows like Felicity and two of my favorite books are The Great Gatsby and A tale of two cities.  I don't have a favorite book without a great love story.

At first I thought he was the groom and he missed his own wedding.  But now reading your comments, it makes more sense that he was the "lost love"
