so i have a playlist for someone named jasmine in my itunes. my name is not jasmine. i don't know anyone named jasmine, though my downstairs neighbor's girlfriend's name is jasmine. also apparently our building is a wireless "hotspot" but i'm more inclined to think that everyone is just using my dsl (which is enable for wireless). and the crazy thing is, i can't transfer songs from her list to my library. any thoughts?

iTunes lets you share music libraries that are connected to the same network. See your iTunes Preferences: Sharing secetion and you'll see you can also share your own library.

Since this only works across computers connected to the same network - it looks like your downstairs neighbor jasmine is connected to your wireless router and using your Internet connection - thus the reason her shared library is popping up on iTunes.

You can't copy songs across shared playlists, sadly.

Looks like you caught her red-handed using your dsl connection though! I'd probably ask her about it - she may not be aware of it. Her activity on it could slow down your connection or worst case - however unlikely - she or someone else in your building could obtain access to your files.

Yeah, I know what you mean about "borrowing" songs. Everytime I'm on the school's internet connection, I see several music libraries of other students (sometimes professors!) I wistfully browse through the list but too bad I can't get any of them. I think it has to do with Apple wanting to discourage illegal sharing, which I can understand.

Get ourTunes!

My room mate's boyfriend told me about this - I got it, and now have access to everyone in my dorm that uses iTunes. Do a seach on Google.

It's super easy to download, but you have to make sure you know where they are saving the files.
