I got my haircut with a new hairdresser for the first time.  I got a cut and partial highlights - total was $145.  I left a $30 tip, however, the hairdresser spend over THREE HOURS on the cut/color (she cut my hair wet and dry, straightened it, etc).  Did I undertip her?  I am starting to feel bad...she spent way longer than any other stylist on my hair and I just gave her the standard tip. 

How much would you tip?

Are you happy with the results, or are you thrilled?! I agree she seems to have been very thorough, it too bad more stylists aren't. I still think 20% is a standard, but if your very happy you could have tipped 10% more. I would bet if you call the salon back and tell the manager how happy you are with the stylist you could explain and add more tip if you wanted.

I think that sounds fine. She and/or the salon (whoever decides the prices) surely factored in the time when they came up with the price, and they knew when they set the price that most people would tip 15%-20%.

Your tip sounds fine. I think the fact that you were very happy with her and will become a regular (I'm assuming) will pay off for her in the long run. You might also send some business her way by recommending her to some other people when you receive compliments on your hair. An extra $10 or $20 might be nice, but getting more clients will work out even better.
