I'm becoming more and more of a fan of listening to podcasts on my iPod and I'm always looking for new ones to listen to. Any ideas?
Here's what I listen to so far:
Sound Opinions (music) The Splendid Table (food) Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me (NPR news quiz) This American Life (various stories) LOSTCasts (about LOST ) Savage Love (relationships--a bit graphic, but he's generally spot on)
i love podcast too...and had no idea about the splendid table! thats awesome, i always miss it on the radio! anyway, besides wait wait dont tell me & this american life, i also listen to; stuff you should know/stuff you missed in history class/stuff mom never told you (the best of the series imo) npr's intelligence squared (oxford style debates) npr's this i believe (ending soon, but you can still get all of the old ones) the moth podcast (personal story-telling) the wall street journal and a random ricky gervais one!
I'm so glad you brought this up because I am a podcast addict and I am always looking for new ones. My favorites are as follows:
-Lipgloss and Laptops-The two women on this are so odd to me (listen and you'll see what I mean) but they review different cosmetic products and have some interesting conversations amongst themselves. They are a bit uptight about things but whatever I still like this podcast.
-Betty in the Sky with a Suitcase-A Delta flight attendants brings you stories from the sky. Very cute and entertaining.
-Five Hundy by Midnight-This one can be annoying but they talk about Las Vegas news and happenings.
-Manic Mommies-If you are a mommy this one is a must. I can totally relate to these two mommies from Boston. Love them.
-Savvies (video podcast)-I used to really like this one too but the girl who does this podcast hasn't produced a new one in over a year. I liked it because the podcast girl would go to stores like Jcrew or Ann Taylor and review what was in the stores. I wish they would bring this one back to life as it was a great concept-maybe someone here could do a podcast like this???
-Clark Howard-Consumer and financial advice.
-All the NPR shows-love them ALL! Especially This American Life.
Grammer Girl Modern Manners Guy Legal Lad Nutrition Diva (although sometimes I'm skeptical of what she says - she doesn't back a lot of stuff up with facts or research as far as I can tell) --the above podcasts are all part of the Quick and Dirty Tips network--
The Ethicist (he takes listener questions about ethical problems) Grammar Grater Podictionary (he explains the etymology of words) 60-second psych 60-second science
and my FAVORITE is Radio Lab by WNYC. I started a thread like this a while back and Squishy mentioned it. They're usually an hour long, but SO fascinating. I don't usually have an hour block of time when I can just sit and pay attention to a podcast, so I save them up for road trips or listen to them if I have two days in a row when I don't have anything else to do for my lunch break.
I just subscribed to Stuff your Mom Never Told You and Stuff You Should Know - they look really interesting, can't wait to try them out! Thanks, guzman!

Oh this is a neat thread. I always hear about podcasts but never really try them out. Last time I was planning my Disney trip I listened to the WDW Radio Show which was pretty neat and informative. I'll have to give a few of these a try.

Aurora-if you are planning a Disney trip you must listen to the Dis Unplugged. The guy who owns disboards.com runs it and it is great. These guys are a hoot and they are always giving away free stuff including cruises and trips to Disney. They do reviews of Disney restaurants and talk about Disney news and stuff like that-another favorite podcast of mine!

Ironically, my 14 year-old son just started listening to the "stuff mom never told you" podcast and he really likes it...I guess I need to start listening to it so I learn all the stuff I don't tell him!
OK, I just have to say that on two 1.5 hour trips yesterday, I listened to Stuff your Mom Never Told You and Stuff You Should Know and I loved them!! Thanks so much!
