I get really emotional the week or so before my period. Not irritable. Just like, I'll cry at nothing and little things stress me out, so that I get depressed rather than annoyed. Any ideas how to stop this? I'd really appreciate help!!

This is so funny that you posted this.  My boyfriend and I were just talking about how I get the same way the week before my period.  This past week I have been PMSing and I've been depressed and crying at stupid stuff.  I also pick fights w/him whenever I'm PMSing.  He always knows when it's that time of the month.  I don't know how to stop it either.  Just thought I'd let you know I can relate

Oh me too, Splash.  Not irritable, just so darn emotional!  I just try to remember it's just stupid hormones and like my mom told me, if I didn't have them, I'd have a mustache, which makes me giggle when I think about it.  I would love it too if someone figured out a way to stop it!

Hi. I have the same problem too, usually get extremely depressed and homesick: "I want to go home to Italy to my mom, buahhhh!" and things like this.

Someone sometimes ago on this forum (or may be it was FH?) suggested St. John's worth (DO NOT TAKE IF YOU ARE TAKING BIRTH CONTROL PILL!), vitamin E or evening primrose oil supplements. I find that vit E helps me, but it takes a bit for it (or any other supplements) to start having an effect. You can try if any of those work for you, but you'll have to keep taking tham for 1 month at least.

The other thing that helps me is thinking that my sadness is not real, is just temporary and it'll go away in a week or so, and focus on the good things tat happen. Be gentle on yourself, and don't get into tricky situations that are likely to make you sadder. Spend time with people that make you laugh (this one helps A LOT!), watch stupid comedies (not the romantic comedies, you risk to burst into tears at the end!) and read funny books.

I can accurately predict the arrival of my period by which night I am sobbing over something random I've read online/talked about with a friend/thought of etc. PMS definitely makes me emotional - if anything it makes all of my emotions closer to the surface, I am much more affected by things when I have PMS. I also will get irritable - things that normally wouldn't bug me are suddenly enough to cause almost instant rage.
