help dressing for an event...

I have a wine tasting to attend in a couple of weeks and would love some ideas on what to wear.  It's a fundraiser, I believe, and my husband's colleagues and major clients will be there.  The dress is "business attire". Well, I don't have much business attire, so I need help.  Any business attire I own is pretty boring and I'd like to make an impression, as this will be the first time I've met many of these people.  I prefer to dress a little funky and creative, so I'd like to add some excitement to whatever "business attire" I wear.  I have the requisite black pants, black heels, etc., but can't seem to get inspired by any of that.  I'd like to keep it pretty inexpensive...maybe under $200 for the outfit?  Any ideas?

Thanks, in advance, for your help!  And FashionPrincess, I would LOVE any feedback you could give, as you're much more familiar with what "business attire" is in that area...(yes, it's up there...we'll be moving up in a week or so...!)...it's so casual where we live now that I have a hard time getting a feel for what business attire really is these days.  Especially business attire for a person who doesn't have a corporate job...

Thanks!

If you have a black suit that might be a good basic to start with.....and then you could buy a really cute top to go underneath, plus really fun accessories.

Hey June, sorry I didn't respond earlier, I meant to

I would wear pants/skirt and a blazer/jacket but not like matching suit or a nice blouse with pants/skirt would also work.  And I picked closed toed shoes, but honestly most places around here are ok with open toe shoes, at least every place I've ever worked.  If this helps at all, I would totally wear any of these combinations to a chamber of commerce event, as do most women, even when men are in suits.  But I would also ask the hubby how women in his office dress, cause that is probably a good reflection of what is appropriate.

For example:

cropped playbill jacketkite tails babydoll

flipped pencil skirttextured stripe trousersopen-air market slacks

in either the pinky/coral color or the tan

eyelet jacketrising star blouse

sault skirtsaint ouen wide-leg trousersopen-air market slacks

Did you guys have any luck finding a place yet?  When are you all moving?  I'm super excited to meet you !
