Any tips for going lighter at home? I'm not trying to go blonde or anything, just to a lighter shade of brown. I want to try something from Sally Beauty rather than Wal mart because I've heard that mixing your own can be better ~ does anyone have any experience with this?
sally has a great range of colors and products, and its usually cheaper than the drugstore. when going lighter, make sure you use the correct developer level. ask the sales people for help, they're usually pretty knowledgeable. their website has some useful tips too. http://www.sallybeauty.com
i must say though, i have been highlighting and dyeing my hair since i was about 13 and it never looks as good as a professional job. don't be discouraged! and good luck.

do you already have haircolor on your hair? if yes, then i would recommend going to a pro. if you do not, i would buy the shade you want to use and probably use 20 vol (if it is only a shade or two lighter) have a friend help you to apply a half an inch away from the scalp to the ends. then after 10 minutes, apply to your roots. this will prevent you from getting "hot roots." (which is a telltale sign of box color)
