My company has been undergoing some "changes" and it seems clear to a lot of us that we may not have a future for much longer. I've come to terms with that, but its so so sooo shitty going to work every day knowing this, all of my coworkers are brooding, moody, anti-social, and several attempts have been made to get me fired this month alone. The work that I'm doing is busy work at its best and I haven't had such bad work discipline since freshman yr of college.
Every day when I step into my office I feel like the life is sucked out of me and I count the hours till I get to go home. Sigh, not really looking for any advice, just need to vent :(
I've been in your position and I'm sorry for what you're going through. I worked for a co. that was going downhill fast for about 2 months -- every day I came in wondering if today was the day everyone was going to be laid off. There was no work to do, nobody talked to each other, everyone was job hunting on their computers or huddled in offices gossiping -- The atmosphere was awful! I hope things work out for you!

Toxic work environments are so miserable:( Can you ask if you can bring in an ipod/headphones to tune out everything while you work? I brought in things that made me smile or motivated me to put on my desk. When things got bad I would grit my teeth and look at a picture of Paris, imagining each hour of pay going towards vacation.
I'm sorry you're dealing with this. My work environment is similar. No one got laid off, but we all got pay cuts and all of our benefits taken away (except health insurance). Morale around here was already terrible, but it's even worse now because who knows if they'll continue to slash pay or lay people off or what. No one is busy, everyone is catty and gossipy and there's no end in sight. I told the bf that every day I'm here, a little piece of my soul dies.
I think that this is the new norm in the workplace right now. I know people that would be happy to be given their notice, just to know wtf is going to happen, and get it over with.
I always think of the line from the movie Fight Club: "This is your life, and it's ending one minute at a time."
