maybe i am naive, but isn't media mail supposed to be for books and magazines and other printed material only? i know it's really cheap for the sender, but it takes FOREVER to arrive, correct?
i just won an auction for a bathing suit on ebay, and got the paypal shipping notification that says it's going to be shipped via "media mail." i went back and checked the auction and it didn't specify the shipping--all it said was "standard flat rate shipping, $5." there's nothing i can do about it because seemingly it has alreday been sent via this method. i was just curious what you guys thought.
First of all, that sucks really bad. It isn't really an infraction of ebay policy, so you really can't complain to them, although I think you should be able to. That's awful - it is against post office rules, but isn't that kind of like ripping tags from mattresses kind of "breaking the law"? A bathing suit can't weigh that much & I'm sure first class couldn't have been more than $3 & although I don't think it's fair to expect a seller to lose money on postage, they shouldn't abuse a "standard flat" shipping statement either. I would at least email them & say that you didn't expect media mail since your item doesn't qualify for that service & ask why they shipped it that way. At least they know you noticed it, but i really don't think there is anything you can do about it.
So sorry - gives ebay sellers a bad rap & I hate that!

Well, the package will probably be sent back to her. I once sent a book via media mail that I had sold on half.com and I also had printed out the details of the sale and put that in the package. They sent the package back to me because there wasn't just a book in there. They had opened it, saw that piece of paper and sent it right on back to me. Media mail is very strict in addition to being slow and sucky.
