Anthro dress...thoughts please
Permalink Closed

Yeah, I'm a total Gemini...indecisive to the end!

I found this dress at Anthro last night for $35. It's more conservative than the french connection dress that I was originally going to wear. I could definitely wear a strapless bra with this and my chest is safely in hiding since the neckline is higher cut. Do you girls think I should get this instead? I like this dress enough that I would wear it to all the events I'm going to, plus probably with flip flops (yeah please don't throw tomatoes...I live in LA!) when it's just too hot to wear pants in the summer.

The reason I want the Anthro dress is because it would work with a cardi already in my closet, and I also have simple pearls that will work with this dress too (are pearls bad luck at weddings?).

for comparison, this is the french connection dress...priced at a whopping $158, if anyone was wondering. I still need to get a shrug/cardi for this and jewelry too and I don't really have the strongest desire to go into debt to look pretty.

Hmm...I'm not a huge fan of the print on the Anthro dress, but it fits you really well, and for $35, it's an amazing deal. But the color of the FC dress is so lovely...I can't decide either! Ok, I'm voting anthro, if only because of the price.

Could you afford to keep both if you don't buy accessories for the second dress and wear the first dress to the events?   I love the second dress on you!  The first one does the job too though and for a great price.

if you can afford to keep both, i would keep both.  i would do the floral (different shoes....sorry) one for graduation and the french connection for the wedding.  you really find dresses that fit your frame perfect!!!

I think that Anthro dress is very flattering on you.  That is my vote.

Hehe, I promise not to wear those shoes.

lynnie, unfortunately I have to chose...I'm trying to return stuff so my credit card bill doesn't give me a heart attack and that FC dress really is a lot more than I want to spend, especially if I can get a dress that does the same job. I'm really not a huge dress person so even though I am imagining me spending the whole summer in the FC dress with my pink C-Label wedges, I know that probably wouldn't happen.

while the fc dress is very pretty, i think the anthro fits better and is more affordable.  so if you're watching your cc bill, i'd probably return the fc dress.

i agree with esquiress and karina--the anthro one is much more flattering on you.  i think you should keep that one and return the more expensive one to french connection.

I don't know if you're still reading this thread Lilykind, and I don't want to be a pain in the ass but I really, *really* like the FC dress on you. It makes you look lovely and feminine and soft and just slightly retro. I also like the anthro dress but the fc dress seems kinda special. Let us know what you decide!

I agree. I think they both look great, but there's something about the 2nd one that I love.

I totally understand where you and Mia are coming from. I returned the dress tonight like a good responsible girl who should be paying off her debt from her spendthrift habits but it broke my heart into pieces. I am going to look for it like a hawk when French Connection has their sales and I'll probably look for it like a hawk if it makes it to the factory store or Loehmanns (that dress won't be there until next spring, but my eyes will be peeled wide open). If me and that dress are meant to be, we are meant to be.

Don't get me wrong, that Anthro dress rocks my socks off too (and $35 for a dress that was orig. $148...come on), but I do agree that it's more of an ordinary springtime dress. Oh, and it's an 8...jeez, the only places in the world I wear an 8 in are designers like Betsey Johnson and DVF, not good ol' Anthro. Yes, someday I will chop off my chest...someday...

don't feel bad--everything in anthro is cut tiny through the chest.  i have the same problem.  which is why i haven't bought a dress-dress in years--i'm into two piece dresses or skirt/top combos now.  same goes for laundry, bcbg, theory...too many more to mention.  it sucks.
