My friend hangs her pictures all the way up on her wall--less than a foot from the ceiling (regular height ceilings) and she thought I was weird when I told her pictures are supposed to be hung at eye level, meaning eye level for the average person, not short little me.  Then she said her mother had helped her hang them.  I still think it is totally wrong--even my taller friends have to look up to see them.  What does everyone else think?

i am with eye level thing but people tend to hang pictures either too high or too low according to how tall they are.

I am 5'9" so i probably hang mine too high.

My favorite Thai Restaurant hung their bathroom mirror so low, it cuts me off at the neck when i go to the restroom. It cracks me up everytime i go in there.

this is true. My husband hung all the pictures in my last house and it drove me nuts because he's 6'2" and I am 5'7". They were too high, in my opinion.

My FH fight over this too - I'm 5'1" and he's 5'11".  Generally speaking most people tend to hang their pictures too high, especially over furniture which tends to give a disconnected look.  It would be fine to do IMO if done with a vertical/large grouping of pictures, like this:

Or this:

Turkey Hill Living 5   Or this:Turkey Hill Dining 2

Oh, that is one of my pet peeves, I hate it when people hang pictures too high.  I work in an art and framing gallery and I am a complete control freak when it comes to hanging my clients pictures

The thing to remember is that when hanging a picture above furniture, you are accessorizing the furniture, not the wall!  And not everything in the room should be the same height at the top, i.e. the top of pics shouldn't be the same height as the door frame or armoire.

I hang my pictures eye level, that is eye level with my 4" heels
