ideas on how to style/wear this jacket
Permalink Closed

i got this $14 jacket at F21 the other day - mainly b/c it reminded me of a piece by one of my favorite designers - nanette lepore.  anyway, i need ideas on what top to wear under it.  any thoughts?  i don't really like how it's styled in the pic and i feel like it needs color (like tan or brown is too expected):

sorry, i can't get the pic to post!

Here's the picture for you.

You can do a lot with that jacket!  I'd personally pair it with dark jeans.

Staying with the Nanette Lepore style, I'd only pair it with a pencil skirt or mermaid skirt, something fitted and sexy.

Do you want to dress it up or down?

Not to hijack the thread, but what is a mermaid skirt?  It sounds pretty.

A mermaid skirt is like a pencil skirt, very fitted but flares out at the knees. It tends to be more flattering and is flirty IMO. I'm not sure where I heard it from or maybe I am misusing it - see example below:

thanks, everyone!  i had planned on mainly wearing it with dark jeans and pencil skirts so it helps to have confirmation on that!  suasoria - i wear jeans more than skirts so i will probably dress it down more often i guess.

i am still sort of torn on tops though.  i'm thinking a colorful tank or blouse but i haven't seen anything i just love yet.  boots - thanks for the suggestions - they actually have that black and white polka dot blouse paired with the jacket on a display so i tried it on with the jacket in the store.  it looked cute but i'm not sure if it's really my style so i left without it.  plus, the blouse was a bit overpriced for the quality ($30 or 40 i think, which is a lot for a polyester blouse from F21!).

I didn't even look at the prices, but $30 is a lot for a blouse at XX21!

I wear short sleeve blazers with jeans a lot during the summer. When I don't want to think too much about the outfit, I'll pair the blazer with a tank top, a cute necklace and a pair of interesting flats. That might make a good starting point for you to play around with.

This sounds cute!  thanks!  oh about the price - i'd totally pay that for a better quality blouse that i liked - i just didn't like the F21 enough to jusitfy the price.  it is sort of cute though irl.

I would definitely not buy the $30 blouse. I actually prefer to wear short jackets with some kind of tank or cami, for me its more comfortable and tends to look less baggy!
