STYLETHREAD -- LET'S TALK SHOP!

so i'm having lunch at my old law prof.'s house yesterday, having fun catching up and she's telling me about how she and her daughters went shopping a couple of weeks ago when her mom was in town. 

so, they're on robertson (between 3rd and alden) and of course there's no parking so she lets the girls out w/ their grandma in front of a store (i think it was kitson, but not sure) and then proceeds to go try to park in the lot.  when she comes back the outside of the store is SWARMING w/ paparazzi. 

meanwhile, inside the girls (Avital "Tali" whose 14, Noa whose 10, and Sara whose 4) are shopping w/ their grandma who is probably the only person in the world who didn't have any idea that the woman in the store whose carrying a little dog in a carrier is the one and only britney.

so grandma goes right up to britney and says "is that a little dog you have there? my granddaughter is scared of them but i think yours is so cute" or something to that effect.  (oh back story:  sara, the 4 yr old, is DEATHLY afraid of dogs and starts shaking and crying and screaming at the sight of one, it's really getting out of hand because they can't even go to the park anymore and the whole family is trying to think of all these ways to help her get over it) 

britney's responds in this thick southern accent "oh he's probably more afraid of you than you are of it!  just think of him as a big ole rat"  and somehow the rat reference seems to have worked on sara because she was FINE, didn't scream and actually had fun petting the dog (that is like a HUGE accomplishment for her).  and grandma is in like a full on convo about dogs and being afraid of them etc. w/ her and meanwhile noa is trying to whisper "bubba, that's britney spears" but of course grandma remains clueless during the entire convo. 

isn't that hilarious??  oh and by all accounts, including tali and noa who don't really like britney, she was super nice and really sweet about the whole thing.  but when i asked noa how britney looked--one word: "fat"  which of course is not a nice thing to say and noa knows that but there you have it.

eta: by the way, sara still has the dog phobia--it seems britney's rat-dog is the only one that doesn't scare her to pieces.  sigh.
