engraving on gifts - sweet or cheesy?

specifically, i bought my fiance a nice watch for his graduation from law school and thought about having something engraved on the back, probably just the degree and date or something, but is that lame?  or sweet?  or just pointless?

i think it's sweet.  besides you're his fiance and it's a major life accomplishment so even if it was a tad cheesy, i think those two facts give you leeway...cheeseway?  tee hee, new word, feeling silly this morning :P

I plan to incorporate "cheeseway" into my vocab as much as possible.

I think it can be cheesy, but the engraved watch for your boy is sweet.
