I thought I would really like it, but some of it actually hits so close to home that it makes it difficult to watch!
It's nice (sorta) that they're representing what it's really like to do this stuff - no designer taking care of the details, no pre-done 'TV-version' of projects to swap out for time, no massive crews of workers behind the scenes. I wonder if it will scare some people out of doing things themselves and subsequently getting in over their heads?

i've never heard of this show, but i watched a couple of the previews on the link that was posted. my husband would probably get a kick out of it, since he does construction for a living. i agree with D, that maybe people should watch this show so they don't get in over thier heads. alot of people who don't really know what they're doing seem to figure it must be quick and easy. wish i had cable...

If it's on hgtv, I've seen it. LOL. This show is sometimes good and sometimes terribly frustrating. There are people with decent skills and motivation and some who have no business trying to do anything themselves! There was an episode with three girls in their early 20s whose pet/s ruined the carpet and they thought they could reinstall wood floors by themselves to save their $5000 security deposit (I've never heard of such a high deposit by the way!). Needless to say, these girls were not truly interested in doing this, and were completely wasting time and not getting anything done amidst their giggles. They were driving me so crazy. Finally they hired help and then begged the poor guy to work ridiculously long hours for them so they could finish in time. Literally, they BEGGED. This episode reiterated many people's misconceptions about women and what we can and cannot do. It made me sad.
PS - I love a lot of shows on the DIY network channel.
