Reducing fat in your recipes

I have a faaaaaaabulous recipe for oatmeal raisin cookies, but it calls for 2 sticks of butter.  I've heard that you can replace butter/oil with applesauce, but have never actually done it and I don't want to find out it doesn't work by ruining 5-dozen cookies.

Anyone tried this?  What is the ratio of butter to applesauce?

I'm not sure exactly how to do it but I know that you can't tell the difference between butter and the applesauce and people do it with brownies all the time. Try checking foodnetwork because they have a great list of recipe substitutions.

Hmmm, it only tells you how to sub butter with oil on the food network site.  I'll see if I can dig it up somewhere else.  Good to know you've had/tried it though!

try looking around the recipe message boards at www.dwlz.com. it seems like a lot of people on WW would do this and I bet someone has posted how to do it over there. I'll try to look around tonight when I'm at home.
