I need a short vacation and we are looking at Miami in June. Neither of us have been before and it looked pretty cheap and close enough to not have to take too much time off work.

Anything we should be sure not to miss? Good restaurants? What kinf of clothes should I bring? Any tips would be very much appreciated.

it will be very hot and humid in june, so make sure you bring necessary hair products and sunscreen!

this is what FH and i did during our miami trip in november

-Espanola Way weekend festival, where I picked up some awesome abalone jewelry and beaded bags & sandals http://www.themarketcompany.org/espanola.htm

-Shopping on Lincoln Road http://www.miamivr.com/tours/lincoln_tour.htm

-South Pointe Park, where we took awesome pictures http://www.concierge.com/destination/miami/ig/attraction/Property/Attraction/data/miami/SouthPointePark.xml/

restaurants/night places we went to:

You can always walk down Ocean Drive and there will be hostesses and waiters trying to pull you into their restaurant, so there is no trouble finding a place to eat in SoBe.  Word of caution - they add their 15,18,22% gratuity automatically on the bill ... we didn't know that!

Where are you staying?

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask or PM me.

Try travelocity.com for packages (air+hotel). We found 4-nights hotel + air for $280 last year.

And the hotel was not bad at all!

Also, for lunch check out Le Sandwicherie 229 14th St (@ Collins)  yummy and cheap

Best gelato I've ever had:  Gelateria Parmalat 670 lincoln rd.

hth!

Choo-what is your budget like for dining? I go to SoBe about every other weekend in the winters. We have a place up there which make it v convenient. I can tell you a ton of great places to eat but I don't want to price you out!

probably once nice dinner (price doesn't really matter),and then a few mid range places (maybe $50 for two people type range)

Ok for the one nice where price doesn't matter I would recommend Barton G's and ask to be seated outside. You will definately need to make reservations in advance. It's very expensive but the food is unbelieveable. Don't fill up because you must save room for desert. Everything is very over the top in presentation.  If you want to keep the price down a bit my advice is to order your own main meal and share an appetizer and desert because the portions are pretty big.  The trio of Beignets for desert is sooooo yummy. Here is the webiste.

My other suggestions is BED, sort of hokey. There are no tables you eat at beds. If there are only 2 of you be prepared to share a bed with 2 other couples. Which is sometimes cool if you are social people. DO NOT wear a skirt if you go, we shared a bed with a girl and she flashed her hoo haw all night as we ate. Not appetizing. The food is good as well though not as good as Barton G's. You have to make reservations there as well but they only take reservatins the day of. Get a late reservations if you can because after dinner it turns into a pretty cool nighclub.

Ok for midpriced/lower priced I would recommend

Tiramasu on Lincoln Rd. It's basic Italian food but good, no need for reservations.

Big Pink on Collins is really good for breakfast terrible service though

News Cafe on Ocean is great for breakfast and lunch even an inexpensive dinner and fantastic people watching

It's sister resteraunt The Van Dyke on Lincoln is just as good. Also check out upstairs at the VanDyke at night for fantastic live Jazz, not alot of people know about it so it's never so crowded you can't get a seat.

OK I could go on forever. Let me know if you need anything else. Advice on shopping, nightlife etc.

OMG Colette, how amazing does that first place look?!? We are definately going there. Do you know what the general price range is thugh, just so I can be prepared? (The nice dinner is my treat). I was practically drooling on my keyboard.

The second place looks really cool too, but he's a prude so I don't think he'd go for it.

Thanks so much!

The price range can vary when you go there I know we had one dinner hit about $400 but that was 3 appetizer, 2 meals, 2 deserts and countless drinks ie martinis. I'd say expect about $200 if you get drinks. Less with no alcohol. It's worth it though.
