Tip for a bang trim?
Permalink Closed

My stylist offers free bang trims between cuts.  Should I tip her?  How much?  I was thinking giving her $5.  Would that be offensive?  I always tip at least 20% when she does my hair.  It usually costs ~$120 for a cut.  TIA!

Hmm...good question.  The cost of the "free" bang trims might already be figured into the $120 you paid for the haircut.  I would probably tip just to be on the safe side, but then I would agonize over whether I was doing the right thing every time.  I look forward to seeing the answer to this one.  Do we have any hairdressers on the board?

Yeah, my salon is a very snooty salon in Bevery Hills.  I always feel very very self conscious when I go there.......I know, I know I should not subject myself to such intense scrutiny!  BUT she is the best stylist I have found!  I am just worried that if I tip something small like $5 or $10, she would be offended - my stylist is a super snob.

Estetica in BH.  I love it there except I always feel like I am not cool enough.  My stylist is awesome, but super super expensive

I tried looking for other stylists in the LA area, but I always come back to her.  If you are looking for a stylist, PM me and I will send you my girl's details.  She is a "long hair specialist" - whatever that means.

yeah, hair care can get expensive!  thx so much for the offer by the way but i'm pretty loyal to my stylist--celeste/stephanie (she changed her name then changed it back, loong story ;) at jose eber on via rodeo.  the only way i can justify the expense if it's only 3 or 4 times a year.  but then again i don't have bangs to deal w/.  anywho, the amount you tip sounds fine to me!

tara-

that tip sounds good to me but you could always ask her sometime what do people usually tip for a bang trim in a casual conversation.

I only tip my stylist $5. My haircut cost $52, but she's going to be at "director's" level. I'm sure that price will go up soon. Yuck...

I get bang trims between every haircut, since they're free. I always tip my stylist $10. My cuts are usually about $60-$70, so I feel $10 is reasonable, especially since she only takes about 10-15 minutes with them.

When my old stylist moved up to "director" the price not only went up, she got an assistant.  The assistant did so much of the work that I always agonized over how I was supposed to distribute tips.  I had 3 people working on my hair when I went in:  my stylist, her assistant, and the hair-washer person.

I could never find someone who knew how I should tip so I always ended up tipping my stylist 20% and the assistant $10 and the hair-washer $5.  I knew I was overtipping, but I didn't know what else to do.  I asked the receptionist once and she kept telling me I should tip whatever I felt was appropriate.  Grr...
