My shopping epiphany..

Ok Ladies, I need some feedback - I have been stressing about my wardrobe quite a lot since I started hanging out on this board because everybody here has such great style, etc. Today I was out shopping & for the first time in a long time I tried on / bought clothes that when I put them on my body I went "THIS IS SOOOO ME"!!! (see weekend shopping post for pixs of my purchases)

For example, I bought some zebra print ankle length pants - they fit me perfectly & I was grinning in the dressing room, I figure that's a good measure of whether something is for you. I also bought a butterfly tshirt that I almost didn't even try on because I thought it didn't look "fashionable" enough. But when I put it on I just went - I know I'll wear this to death. And on the other hand I tried on the cute boho skirts at Target & just went "AHHHH, NOOOO" - it just didn't look like me & I kinda hate that because when I see you girls post things, you look so cute in it & I really want to wear it, but I'm not going to do that if I feel ridiculous.

I guess my question / point is this....I realize you are supposed to wear things that make you feel comfortable & happy - but when does that just cross the line & become "out of style". Are there things you would never wear in a million years because you think it's out of style, or do you just mix current fashions into your personal style? My work situation changed (from banker to stay at home wife), so I guess my whole personal style image has been shaken - I can be more fun now & I think that just has me confused or something? I'm not going to wear something just because it's in, but I also don't want to be the girl that you see in that mall & all of you say "that girl has on some ugly zebra pants!!!" - Does any of this make sense at all?????

I think anyone following their own style is probably going to get comments/thoughts - both negative and positive, from others, and it's impossible to avoid. Look at someone like Sienna Miller or MK Olsen - half the people love their style, and the other half think they look like homeless cowgirl/bagladies!

When I see someone wearing something 'out there', even if I don't think I would wear it myself, or even if it's not *my* style, I always admire that person for not following the herd.

Wear your zebra pants, girl!

I think you've got the right idea.  The most important thing is that you feel comfortable and confident in your clothes.

Personally, I think it is more fun to take some risks and possibly make some mistakes than to always wear what some magazine is claiming to be "in style."  If you can rock the zebra pants, you should go for it!

BTW, I'm totally with you on the boho skirts, they look sooooo rediculous on me.

I think the most important thing in buying clothes is that you get that kind of reaction from yourself. For example, when you look in that mirror and your heart jumps, and a smile apppears on your face, and you tell yourself, " This is so me!". Have fun when you are out shopping, not everythin that is in style looks good on all of us. I look freakin' fat in this full length skirt or a-line skirts make my ass bigger that what it already is.

Actually I can relate too!  After being on here for 9 months, my shopping habits have changed dramaticly.  I'm really critical of stuff in stores and what I buy.  In a sense it's good, cuz I'm buying less, spending less.  The bottom line is what makes you comfortable is of course, what's best for you.
