I could never pull them off. But my American roommate who I lived with while studying abroad could. I saw them in alot of stores in Spain two years ago, and I thought no one can pull those off, but she could, and she looked good doing it.

Well, I certainly will not wear those in white!

I do like the crotchier hammer pants better (and might just wear them in the right place on the right day).  These Anthro ones look too costumey and not irreverent enough.  They look like they're from Chadwick's or something.

BTW:  I love the skirt and would wear that in a minute -- for the right occasion.

Variations of these were ALL over Greece last year when I went and a few girls here in Paris too. I actually bought a pair on the cheap in Olive like the black F21 ones. Also bought a jumper variation for clubbing but have never got to wear it yet. Kind of too avant garde for gthe O.C. I guess.

The ones with the bunchy way excess materials just horrible though l. DU and I commented how it looked like people took a dump in their pants or something wadddling like penguins. Mostly those were worn by older less-svelte women ;)
