i have a bank one checking/savings/cc and i still have a ING account.  you will never ever see 3.00% APR with bank one- guaranteed- i researched and asked my banking person there.   i get $20 transferred every friday from my bank one checking into my ING account.  I opened it March 1st of this year and checked it this morning and i currently have $150!  that easy- and i didn't even miss the $20 every week!

i think you should consider it.  you can still keep your bank one savings too like me.  it never hurts to have more than one savings account (i actually have 3 altogether)

also, i have gotten into your bind before.  transferring all your balances to a low APR will help you tremendously with your budget.  i am VERY budget conscious most of the time and have recently put myself on a shopping ban until i pay off some bills and get back into a cash ready environment for myself.  good luck!

haha... I have an account with bank one but their stupid fees and crap drive me nuts.  I really want to get rid of them when I move. They are one of the better banks around my area though which is sad.  I'm glad they give you some perks though.

Edit: How about opening another account at Bankone that you can put money aside in each month or something that you don't touch. Same idea as an ING account but with Bankone so you don't feel like a traitor.  I have a checking acct with them, a savings acct with them and 2 cds but still do ING because you can have up to 9 mini accounts under one big account.  I think some banks call it envelopes.  Ask B1 if they have that.

based on my salary, when i take out rent (aka....money to my bf for morgage), taxes (over $9,000-grrrr), 20% of my paycheck for savings...my budget is $40 a day.  so if i want a new sofa, skirt, etc...i have to use it out of my $40 a day.  so basically, if i want things, i can't purchase $40 worth of stuff a day.  it has worked wonders for keeping me in budget (i bring my own coffee, i pack my own lunch, etc..).  i know it's not for everyone, but i was shocked that with my salary (which is really decent for just out of college) that's all i can live off.  almost half my salary was gone when between taxes, savings, and rent.

since my bf used to make the same amount of money that i am making, he sat me down with a budget.  (it was a huuuuuuuuuuuuuge reality check).  but, i admire his financial responsibility (he is afterall paying a morgage, rather than renting) and i realize that at the end of the day a closet full of clothes could easily be a vacation home in santa fe (don't get me wrong, i still love my clothes).

i think that if you haven't already, you should sit down a make a budget.  and like i posted before, if you don't shop, you don't know what you're missing!

I get check imaging fees every month and my account is supposed to be fee free.  Their atm fees are outrageous if you are out of town and don't have a choice - I'm sure all banks are like that though but they are the worst. They also charged my old roommate a NSF charge when she wrote a $2.50 check to TCBY and had money in the bank (she never used her Bankone Account since she was from out of state but needed it when people gave her checks) and wouldn't refund even though it was there mistake!

C-razy....

i don't have any fees like that.  i have my work direct deposit my check and so i have a no-fee friendly bank account.  and also, since i travel all the time, one of my favorite things that they offered is that if i need to use a Non-Bankone ATM, i get 2 freebies (no fees charged) per month.  i just have to fork over whatever the OTHER bank charges me to use their ATM.  usually i have cash on hand.. but in the rare instant, i do have the option.  but you're right- otherwise their fees are OUTrageous for non-Bank one ATM's  what is it like $2.50?

I think its $3 + whatever the other bank charges you.  Yeah if I write a check I get charged $2 a month for them to scan it online for me.  It makes me so mad.  I'm not supposed to have any fees.

Can you tell me what kind of checking acct you have?  Since I work here, I'd be happy to look into it for you, because you DEFINITELY should not be charged check imaging fees.  I've never heard of that.  It's also bogus if your friend got charged for writing a check for $2.50.  I'd be happy to do some research for you and maybe give you a phone # of someone who can correct that for you.

lsubatgirl or bex - thanks for all of the help and info.  How do I look into ING then?  I like bex's idea of opening an add't account w/ING because the interest rate is so good.  I really appreciate the help

I'll look up my account type.  I think Value One maybe.  Bankone in Louisiana is strange though. Like my friends from Texas with Bankone Texas can take out money but can't deposit money in Louisiana.

Now for ing info check out www.ingdirect.com but don't sign up until you get a referral from someone on here because if you just sign up you don't get the free $25.

no problem!  good luck with your savings plan!

just remember all the times you say to yourself "eh. what's 20 bucks?"  and remember that $20 bucks could go in your ING account!!!

So how do I get a referral from someone on here?

Also, do you guys know of any good websites w/credit card offers?  I'm trying to find a 0% intro rate for balance transfers/purchases.

Do you have a Capital One card yet? I think they do 0%. or maybe Citibank?  Which ones do you have and maybe we can go from there with checking different ones.

For ING you can pm either me or bex with your first & last name and your email and one of us can send you one.

I'm gonna check out the ING website now.  I'll PM one of you

Discover card offers a platinum with 0% APR for 12 months after you transfer your balance. Then you don't have to worry about being a traitor

https://www.novusnet.com/cardmembersvcs/discovercard/apply-for-a-card/compare

Plus discover cards aren't taken every where so you won't be tempted to use it often. I have one and I like it.  I haven't had any problems with them and I get cash back on all my purchases.

both of my CCs are Bank One and Chase too... i don't know of anything else...

except you may want to check AmEx b/c i think they have a 0% intro and don't you have to pay off AmEx's every month?  that would help with your finances.

I thought Amex too for her but I think she is trying to find a place to "park" her balances for a year and slowly pay them off. But she should get an Amex after she pays off her debt because they do have to be paid off completely every month.

I defintely can't afford to have an Amex and have to pay off my balances each month!  I will look at the Discover card - anything else?  What about Citibank?  Anyone familiar w/those?

As for the ING Savings Acct - one question - how do you take money out if you have to?  Right now I have a bank one savings and I can just go to the ATM and withdraw.  How do you get it out of ING if you had to?

you link your ING account with your Bank One checking account.  Then you just transfer money back and forth like you do now with your Bank One checking and savings accounts...

when you transfer FROM Bank1 TO ING, it takes about 2 days

when you transfer TO bank one FROM ING it takes about 4-5 days

sorry about the amex card- i forgot you were transferring your old cards over... i was thinking for future so that you don't get in trouble again!
