I have been thinking about Grad school and I was looking at my school and seeing what they offered. Two things that appealed to me were Educational Psychology and Non profit management. Now they sound intresting and all but what could i do with them?

with educational psychology you could work for a school system (either based in a school, or at the district office perhaps) doing a whole variety of things.  that particular degree probably wouldn't focus or qualify you for actual counseling, but you might work to create curricula for students with special needs (learning disabled, handicapped, gifted, etc.), you might intervene if there is a student who's having problems at school, to find out what the problem is, if they have family issues, a learning disability, some sort of trauma, etc.  you might also be involved in planning and handling standardized testing and learning assessments and then using that information to plan the curriculum, target needs for the school to improve, that sort of thing.  i think the basic goal is to enable students to succeed from behind the scenes, if that makes any sense.  i've heard it described as sort of "educational forensics" where you have a puzzle, like "why is Bobby suddenly doing badly is school?" to "how come Smith County students consistently score low in math on standardized tests?" and then you have to find all the pieces of the puzzle to come up with the solution.

here's a page from the National Association of School Psychologists's site on "What is a School Psychologist?" - http://tinyurl.com/65yhz

you might try looking for job ads for this type of job and see what they say the responsibilities/duties are.  here's one, there are lots more on this site: http://tinyurl.com/6k3xz

of course, if you didn't want to actually work in schools, you could probably use this degree for something different but related, like working for Educational Testing Service (the SAT people) writing tests or something like that, in a more corporate environment.

Non-Profit Management seems like it would be similar to an MBA with a highly specific concentration.  It would prepare you to run a non-profit organization, like an arts/cultural organization (Ex: performing arts center, museum, historical societies), medical organization (Ex: The Red Cross, Planned Parenthood, some hospitals), or even a zoo (some zoos are non-profit).

Do you have any experience in any of these areas? What is your undergrad degree in?
