tailoring denim?

How possible is it to tailor denim - a pair I've been looking for for awhile have shown up on eBay in a size 29, and I am a size 27 and sometimes a 28 in some brands. The seams are all straight and regular - no True Religion type wonk going on.

Opinions on whether tailoring is an option?

I'm thinking it would require a good amount of cash and a very talented tailor, but I've never attempted to get a pair of jeans altered all around. My guess is that the shape/fit of the jeans would be affected if the seams were taken apart.

I think it would be pretty difficult to do without messing up the placement of the pockets

I have a very small waist and big thighs- so I sometimes have to get darts placed in the belt area.  But as far as moving a size it would be very hard.

Its probably not worth the money to spend on the tailoring- and then what if it doesn't look right? That might be a little too risky. Save your money for something that is going to fit. It'll be better in the long run.

since most denim is specially washed after it is sewn, it leaves the worn effects as well as darkened effects along all seams, notice it's not just the hemline and even in dark rinse jeans with less obvious intentional wear/washes.  Basically, I would probably not do this because it will probably cost too much and will probably not look original.

If you must, try to get a local referral or call around and ask lots of questions.
