please help with one more dress question!!

I'm new to the forum so, I haven't read about your festive event to nausium:)
To me wearing a sheer hose with an open toe shoe is always a bad taste. I even saw Cacharel hose, about 8-10 DN, with very soft & small toe seam developed for exactly those occasions & they even sell it as a sandal hose, however, I saw it on somebody & you can still see the toe seam that just looks bad....at least to me...
The only situation that I see is OK to wear a hose under a sandal is if it's colorful, bright bold color, which I think won't be an option for you, will it?
If it's a ceremony in the Church, can you wear a pair of shoeswith hose to the church & then change it to sandals for the reception ( Will there be a reception after church ceremony?)...
I'm sure people will tell you it's OK to go with hose under sandlas, but I know if I were you I'd hide my feet during all ceremony & feel uncomfortable if in advance I feel that it's not something i'm used to do/wear....

hi yana! thanks and welcome! i should clarify - they are not sandals at all. i mistakenly called them slingbacks and they are not even that. they are PUMPS with a tiny peeptoe that's about the size of a quarter - does that make a difference?

To me it does, i'd prefer to see a painted toe nail...However, i"m the one who sees every little string on the attire, i'm sure not many would notice ( proved by many MANY occasions:))...but if you're posting here about it, conscions about it & will wear a hose - You might end up feeling uncomfortable... hmm

I don't think you have to wear hose in church, and I always prefer open-toes without, but DC is so conservative that I don't know if it's a faux pas or not, sorry.

I wouldn't wear hose to that event if it were me. If they're not to keep you warm, why bother? Sheer hose won't make any difference, really, especially if they're very sheer and only the most attentive people will notice. Of course those are the ones who will judge but whatever.

I'd say you have 3 choices:
1. wear tights (perfectly acceptable with peep toes)
2. go bare legged
3. wear toeless hose - easy enough to find (department store, Target, etc.) but it's my least favorite of the chocies

Because you are describing a small peep toe on your shoe, I think it sounds perfectly appropriate to wear hose if you wish to, it's not like a sandal where all your toes are hanging out.

I think this "rule" completely depends on the amount of toe shown! Peep toe shoes vary in toe exposure. If your full big toe doesn't show, then I think pantyhose are fine.

I feel like the hose rule is kind of outdated... sort of like don't mix black and brown. Some people may still follow the rules, but lots don't. Unless you're working in an ultra-conservative office that requires them, I think you're okay to go without. I definitely wouldn't wear them. If you feel uncomfortable going bare-legged, I'd do what blubirde said and wear tights. That would be completely appropriate for the shoes, weather, and event.

okay, thanks girls. i think i'm going with tights. i just CAN'T do the hose thing at all, even though my big toe doesn't even show. blink - LMAO at that picture! oh, the horror!

I love that dress! But I don't know if I'd go with navy tights since the dress is already so dark. I have a pair of navy tights that I wear with grey and brown skirts but not my navy skirt because my legs get lost in all the navy-ness. If the tights have some sort of texture that might make a difference.

thanks, boots. so what color tights would you wear then? i'm considering grey, as xtinastyles suggested, or brown (but my clutch is bronze), or maybe a textured navy then. any other suggestions or opinions on what would work best out of those three?

i'm starting to think you are right! i haven't worn them in years and haven't seen anyone else wear them lately either, now that i think about it. i usually just do bare legs or if it's really cold - pants.

Grey tights. If you pick the same navy color - that nice dress might look off style...( proportion will change).
I also thought aoubt cream/off white lacy tights - veru much in style now. With either boots or that small open toe.
