What did you guys think?  Overall, everything was pretty typical.  I did like all the chunky necklaces the girls were wearing.

I loved all the orange!!! SJP looked very .. "breastly" Miley looked redic, esp for her age, Beyonce bleh! I was disappointed by Reece Witherspoon and Kate Winslet.. she's been really spot on for less-important awards. Marissa Tomei and Even Rachel Wood may have been my picks.

How hot was RPatz????

Anne hathaway's dress was  really cool.  Marissa Tomei's was beautiful.  I liked Jessica Biel's general appearance, though her dress was unfortunate.  I loved the story behind Penelope Cruz's vintage dress.  Tilda  Swinton's hair color was much better this year.

SJP's dress was awful! She looked like she was trying to imitate Barbie or something. It just seemed too prom-y to me.

Miley's dress was pretty, but would have been better on someone like Kate Winslet. Otherwise it's just too much dress for a 16 year old.

Sofia Lauren's dress was also pretty tragic. She looks so great for her age and the color of the dress and the style just seemed dated.

I did like Marisa Tomei's dress, Anne Hathaway's, and Freida Pinto. Freida Pinto's just so gorgeous anyway, I'd think it would be hard for her to look bad.

I loved Penelope's dress...all that gorgeous detail in the closeups. And Marisa Tomei's was also wonderfully intricate.
I really like Miley's dress...just not her in it.
SJP's push up bra is doing overtime.
Jessica Biel looks like the tablecloth got stuck in her dress.
Lisa Rinna scared me.
Angelina....yawn...
Heidi Klum looks likes someone just stapled material to her.
And Beyonce needs to stop letting the blind dress her!

I really liked Miley's dress as well. I don't really see it as being too much for her - it's princess-ish and keeps her covered. I thought Anne Hathaway's dress was ok but to me she gets lost in it because it is so white and her skin is very white. I think in another color it would be better. I really liked her in the red last year. Otherwise the dresses were usual Oscar type dresses and not really my style.

loved marissa tomai, and whoever this other person is:
12_7_full.jpg25_2_full.jpg

now, if uban dictionary had illustrations for definitions, lisa rinna would serve as a perfect example for the cougar entry:
rinna_full.jpg

that hair makes her look 20 years older.

SJP - gives new meaning to the term "busting out":

As much as Miley Cyrus scares me in general, I love her dress. It's so fairy princess.

I thought it was great for her.  When my daughter saw it she said, "Mommy, I didn't know Hannah Montana is a princess!"

I'm with everyone on Marissa Tomei - that dress is amazing.

Marissa Tomei's dress was beautiful. I also liked Natalie Portman's - especially the pleating. I thought it was unique.
Alicia Keys looked way better than usual. She tends to make unflattering fashion choices and this time she did well.

I thought Fredia Pinto's dress was an amazing color for her (it looked like a brighter blue on TV than in the picture here), but could have done without the one arm netting.

Frieda Pinto

I think this was my favorite dress of the night.  Simple yet detailed perfectly.

Does anyone have a pic of Jen Aniston on the red carpet?  I thought her dress looked so pretty on stage.  Her hair was so so, but the dress looked great and youthful on her.  Sorry, but I think she looks way better then Angelina who always wears boring black and looks so uptight like she's never having any fun.  Plus her tattoos make her look so trashy when she's all dressed up.

I must say, I loved Anne Hathaway's dress. So sparkly, so elegant. Of course anything would like good on that girl.

I also loved Angelina Jolie. I thought she looked really stunning. Her dress was simple, but she looked really happy and glowing.

Beyonce looked aaawful. What awkward posing.

I almost feel like it would be nitpicky to single out one of the many pale nude/beige/champagne strapless dresses, since there were so, SO many. Then there were the pink, black or red strapless dresses. Did they all call each other last week to coordinate?

ITA on the Jessica Biel/tablecloth comment; odd dress, although she looked beautiful overall.

Frieda Pinto's one-sleeved dress worked for me because it was reminiscent of a sari.

I tend not to like the extreme mermaid shape of Beyonce and Melissa George (I had to look her up since I had no idea who that was). They look so uncomfortable and it's almost always unflattering.

i watched last nite, and i think a lot of the dressses looked much better close up than in the pictures. i was especially enamored with:
marissa tomei's dress: the pictures i've seen hardly show the elaborate pleating, that dress must have taken MONTHS to make! so gorgeous.
here's a better picture:
1699612616_8455672783.jpg
penelope cruz's dress: absolutely stunning, loved the fact that it was vintage. the perfect oscar dress.
freida pinto's dress: the critics are saying it sucked, but i loved it. it was perfect on her. and the color was awesome.
vanessa hudgen's dress: critics also hated this dress, but i thought it was fun and age-appropriate. she looked great!
