Old Navy Hit or Miss
Permalink Closed

So I had a whole bunch of things (dresses and tops) in my online shopping cart at Old Navy.  This afternoon I was there and checked them all out in person...and boy was I disappointed.  The quality was so lacking.  The cute sundresses looked more like chemises to sleep in.  I used to think of ON as a great place for basics, but not after today.  When did they go south?

I had the same experience recently. Everything looked so cute online! They few things I tried on also all seemed like they were cute really wide. It was somehow all boxy, even though the lengths were on the longer side (I generally associate boxy things with stopping right at the waist, so it surprised me to think that about that things hitting at the low hip...)

it's always been kind of cheapy, but I do have some items I love that I bought from there.  I haven't shopped there in over a year, I think.  maybe they're trying to increase their profit margins by making lower quality clothes...

The same thing happened to me recently too. After checking the site online I go into the store and it's like where is all the cute stuff I saw online? I only ended up getting one gray/white striped shirt. They're still a pretty good place for kids clothes though.

Yeah, the man got some jeans and polos, as did the boy but I didn't find anything worth spending my precious few bucks on.

I usually do ON for tank tops and workout/yoga pants. Their fit is seriously lacking - I think its always been this way.

When I worked at Banana the "rumor" was that they scrimped on having a quality control dept so items often were produced with errors and massive variance with sizing.

I think I've mentioned that I have a few beater tanks from ON that are rock-solid - but they are probably 7 years old by now. I used to praise their basics, but the newer stuff is awful. The 7-year-old tanks will probably wear longer than anything recent. Sad, but I'm not their target customer.

Ughh, you said it! Lately I've bought a lot of Old Navy maternity wear (mail only) and returned almost half of it. Crooked shoulder seams, ankle lengths that are NOT ankle length...so frustrating. Still a fine place for kids clothes though, I agree.

I am actually wearing an Old Navy tank top today and noticed that this year's version is alot thinner than last year's. You can practically see through it! (I have a cardigan on over it.) I have a friend who gives me an Old Navy gift card every holiday because she never knows what to buy me and lately I've been only using it to buy tank tops or work out gear because everything else is so poorly constructed.

It's dissapointing that their stuff looks really cute online but once I see them in the store either the fit or quality is a let down.

I agree that the kids clothes are great! I wonder if they're even made by the same manufacturer!

ON has gone down the toliet. I have only been in there 3 or 4 times in the last year, and there hasn't been anything in there worth looking at. It's really sad. Isn't ON about to go out of business?

Now I get all my tees at F21 and for $4.50, you can't beat that. Plus, they've held up really well.

For me it truly is hit or miss. I got some dresses there in the fall that I love (and even had a huge Diane Von Furstenberg fan ask me if one of them was DVF) and I have a number of items from past years that are really cute and have held up well, but there are times that I go in there and think everything is crap.

I'm glad this was posted...a week ago i was wearing some workout pants from there, squatted and ripped the seam in the a**. OOPS! At least now I can tell myself it is because it was poorly made ;)

I went in their yesterday to pick up some cheap flipflops and the quality of the items in there this season was pretty bad. I picked up one shirt and it was so thin. I love their basic tank tops, but they seem to get thinner and thinner each year. I have some from last year that are falling apart, yet ones from 5 years ago that still look great.

I used to go in there all the time and now I can't even remember the last time I was there. I have to get on my tippy-toes (i'm an average 5'4") in order to see items on the upper racks only to find that the garment size doesn't match the size listed on the hanger. It's a total pain in the ass and their clothes aren't worth the aggravation.

I go to the J. Crew outletand I think their prices are comparable, though their quality I think is going downhill as well. The past couple times that I purchased knit basics a couple of the hems came undone after the first wear/wash.

If J Crew is like most stores, they make specific lines solely for outlet stores. It wouldn't surprise me if the same factory putting out ON clothes is also doing J Crew outlet merchandise.

They are so unreliable, but sometimes you can find a hit.

I picked up a gray cashmere zip up hoodie there in the Fall, thinking it would be an okay basic, but instead I have been wearing it constantly!  I absolutely love it and I am so glad I found it!

I used to love ON tanks for layering, but I agree here. Not only are they thinner, but they seem to be getting shorter too, at least in my experience. I used to love the length of their tanks.

However, I got a ruffled neck cardigan for Christmas from ON and it's really held up. I wear it weekly and it hasn't shrunk or lost its shape at all.

I've only bought a FEW things from ON, and they've lasted me up to this point. I laso see A LOT of cute things from them, either in a magz., or somewhere, and think --- will it be that cute at the store????? LOL

Sandy- I agree about the ruffle neck sweater. I have the black and white version and it has held up nicely.

I have begun to treat ON like Forever 21. You have to see the items in person and really look them over before buying anything.
