interesting article - department stores in trouble

http://fashionista.com/2009/02/department_stores_on_the_slide.php

jc penney sign.jpgWWD just reported that the month of January saw 600,000 jobs cut from the American economy, 8,600 of which were from department stores.

This news comes right on the heels of yesterdays department store news, that the S&Ps Ratings Services has placed six department stores - Dillards, Macys, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, J.C. Penney and Sears - on credit watch, which means any or all of those companies could have their credit ratings lowered, and we all know what that means.

In fact, Bon-Ton, Kohls and Saks have all recently had their credit ratings lowered from stable to negative.

Our advice? If youve been holding on to some gift cards from any of those stores

Yeah, who does that leave? Bloomingdale's?? Sheesh. Pretty soon we won't have anywhere to shop anymore! Except maybe Anthro...but sadly, I cannot live by Anthropologie alone.

It is amazing how many stores are in trouble. I went onto some of there websites after you posted this article (mainly Saks and Neiman's) and you would think they would have really good sales because of their financial situation, but they don't.
