In 2003 we stayed at the Loews Universal Royal Pacific and it's fabulous, but I wreally want to stay somewhere else. Preferable a 4-star or more location.
The Gaylord is really nice... it's new and pretty. The Cypress Gardens is also pretty nice.
If you want to stay on Disney, the Grand Floridian, Swan, Dolphin, Beach & Yacht clubs, and Boardwalk are all the nicest there on property. I personally like the Boardwalk because you can walk to Epcot, the theme is cute, and there is a really good resturant there called the Flying Fish Cafe.
I'm a dork and know way too much about Orlando because growing up we went to Disney World at least once, sometimes twice a year (like the Grisswolds going to Wally World). I have friends there too. It is an extremely cheesy, touristy place where I could never live but it's fun to visit for short trips.

I second these. Gaylord Palms is really nice as are most of the nicer Disney hotels. I would try to avoid International Drive as much as possible; let's just say its very, very touristy and probably the tackiest area of Orlando.
