I want dibs on FP's closet then. Actually after reading about someone else who purged this weekend I really want to do the same. Esp since all my really nice clothes are in a pile in the middle of my room so I can wear them instead of hanging in my closet. What are you doing with your clothes? Ebaying them also or just donating?
I did put aside some of the nicer things to see if I ever have the time to ebay them. There was a pair of really nice leather pants that just don't fit me anymore, and a few Marc by Marc Jacobs things.
After my family and friends pick thru the pile, I will donate the rest.

A bunch of my friends and I do this once a year. We all invite as many people as we can and everyone brings the stuff we don't want. It is total chaos, but fun. Last time we did it we had about 30 people and a whole house full of clothes. I got my favorite pair of jeans there and a cute sweater. The host donates anything left over to the women's shelter. It is really fun and a great way to get rid of stuff. I already have a bag set aside for the next time we get together.
There was a pretty good article this week in the Boston Globe about closet purges. Definitely inspired me to set aside some time to do mine next weekend! Here's the link:
Congratulations! I did this last weekend and it is so freeing. Now I go to my closet and want to wear everything in it and it is so much easier to select from fewer items. I was thinking the same thing about a big swap, that would be fun.
Now we just need to make a pact to maintain it and not buy stuff just for the sake of buying stuff. In other words from now on I only want to buy things that are a "10".

It's funny: I have the opposite issue. I buy quality and then realize that I don't really have enough to wear. I will buy all this really pretty stuff from BCBG, Anthropologie or Laundry and realize that this isn't even the stuff I can wear on a daily basis.
Then I go back and will buy a boatload of plainer, can be mixed and matched type stuff, from cheaper (but still not as cheap of stores as I should be going to) stores. Sometimes, these end up being more valuable to me and worn more often than my quality items. Most of the time, I don't need to look fabulous-I'm just running out to the store or to a class or to my friend with a baby's house. These are the kind of clothes I always feel like I am lacking.
Every year I try to make a pact with myself to buy more quantity over quality. I tell myself that "so and so always has the cutest clothes and she never spends a lot. There is no reason that I can't buy all my clothes at Gap/Limited/Old Navy this year, too." Never works though and I am left with the same nothing-to-wear dilemma.
I love the idea of an exchange! Everyone has such cute stuff! I wouldn't be able to contribute much though. I hate getting rid of stuff. It has to be worn to the point of unwearability or really out of style for me to part with it.
