Breaking up is bad for the ban

(See dating and relationships for my sad whining story.)

Soooo. For two years I have spent every weekend with my boyfriend, enjoying fun snuggly couple activities and companionship.

This weekend, I anticipate spending money that I don't have on things that I don't need, including cutting my hair (long, brown, see below) and dying it blond. I don't know whether to worry about myself or cry.

sweetie please don't cut your hair right now, after and during a break up is the worst time.  PLEASE wait 3 weeks and decide if it's what you really want.

I agree - don't mess with the hair! It's a common break-up reaction, but any good stylist will refuse to do anything drastic to a client's hair in a moment of personal trauma.

Give it a few weeks, like itsapinkthing said and then see if you still want to do it.

And don't worry about yourself - it's normal to feel sad and do crazy things when a relationship ends, especially a serious one. Just try to stay as sane as possible indulge in things that make you feel better. (friends, chocolate, shopping, bubble baths, silly movies, etc.)

As for the shopping, you can always pay it off next month, right? I'm being an enabler, I know, but I know how much shopping therapy really helps!

Well, I was actually planning to do it on my birthday in December, so I've been thinking about it for a while now. I'm just accelerating my time frame.

My hair is very similar in texture to SJP's (the pic above is staightened and then slightly recurled) and I just love this style:

 curly

and

straight

Sooooooooo. I'm going to hijack this thread into a "What do you think of me cutting my hair?" thread.

i'm sorry about your breakup...

but as for the hair, i say, do it!  hair is just hair, if you hate it, it'll grow back or you can re-dye it your natural color.  I love getting haircuts and changing my style and always feel better after doing so.  i think cutting your hair and looking hot is a great way to help get over a breakup.  I think the style and color would be good for you, just make sure your colorist is really really good because you are making a dramatic change.  go ahead and spend the money on the best you can afford.

I mean, it's a superficial band-aid, but it might help your self confidence and make you feel like starting over is a good thing.  which it definitely can be.

Since you've been thinking about it since December, I change my previous response and say GO FOR IT! I love, love SJP's hair in those pics.

I'm not sure of your coloring but you might want to stick with more of a honey blonde color or do more of a heavy highlight look and keep some of the dark underneath. I like how in the first pic of SJP it looks like her hair color fades from light blonde to dark blonde/brown in the back. Very cool.

Blubirde, that is exactly what I'm going to do! I printed a bunch of pics for my stylist so she can see how I want to incorporate the blonde with my brown, and I'm definitely going for more of a honey blonde. In the pic I posted, my skin looks really red for some reason, but I'm actually pretty pale with true pink undertones. I think a warmer blonde would warm up my skin and look better than a cool or frosty (eek!) tone.

Yay for the support of Blubirde and DC Shopper!

Yeah- this is exciting. I love that haircut and I think you will look very cute w/ it. It is just hair and it will always grow back if you odn't like it.

Post pics when you get it done, so we can see how cute you look!

whenever i go to my hairstylist, i give suggestions (like the overall look that i want) and then i say,"what do you like?".  i have a motto, they do their job everyday, so why should i tell them how to do their job?!  for instance, when you watch those makeover shows, when the stylist gets control of the person's hair, they usually look amazing, now, the person probably would never have thought to do that by themself.  so don't underestimate the hairstylist (one that you like and trust).  see what he/she thinks of that look with your hair, face, etc...

personally, i say you can rock it!!! good luck, it's only hair, it will grow back.

I think you have the perfect face for SJP's haircut.  I love the idea of the honey highlights too.  I cannot wait to see the pictures.

By the way, I'm NOT sorry about your break up. If it wasn't going to work out it's always better to cut the strings as soon as possible so you can move on with your life and find the real Mr. Right.  Congrat's on getting out of there!

Okay, okay! I have to know - did you do it? How does it look? Are you in love with your new hair?

I did it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it looks pretty cute. Everyone has said they really like it, but I am relying on all of you ST girls to give me the honest truth, as soon as I find a digital camera (yet another thing that was my boyfriend's) and post pics.

It is kind've a work in progress, because my stylist thought it would fry my hair to go really light blonde right away. So I have, basically, a ton of beige-y blond highlights, and then I'll go back in a month for the honey blonde. I know beige-y blond sounds ugly, but it's really not. It looks pretty good. It's just hard to describe. And I think there is a little too much volume on the sides of my cut - my hair is pretty thick, so I'm going back today to have that retrimmed. It's hard for me to say whether I really like it because I'm still getting used to it.

I really can't wait to post pics, though. Hmmm. I wonder if anyone at my office has a camera?

Thanks to all of you for your opinions and support! Focusing on everything but my ex is key for me right now!

Your stylist sounds like she (or he) knows what they're doing. I think going in transition phases is the best way to go when you're trying to go lighter, especially from such a dark brown as yours was. I bet it looks fantastic. I can't wait to see a pic!
