FH was going to drive me to work this AM so he could have the car but when we get in and he starts it up, the car proceeds to shake violently.  Me: "Um, it's not supposed to do that, right?"  Him:  "Um, no it's not."  He turns it off and mutters something about a timing belt (a $300 fix) and decides we probably shouldn't drive it until we know what's wrong.  He asks our roomie if we can borrow his car and I go to work, but make him promise to call and tell me what's wrong with our car when he finds out. 


He goes back home and pops the hood on the car, only to find A VERY LARGE VERMIN CLIMBING AROUND IN OUR ENGINE !  It took him and roomie almost and hour to get this damn thing out, hissing like all getout the entire time.  They even had to jack up the frickin' car!  Turns out that little b!tch had chewed through 3 of our spark plug wires!


I never in a million years expected that when he called to tell me what he found out!  I guess $40 spark plug wires are better than a $300 timing belt!


But, ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww !

omg.  i think i would have passed out.  was it a possum? i am not squeamish about bugs, spiders, anything like that, but if a possum crosses my path i lose it completely.

Well, at first FH thought it was a porcupine, but it turned out to be a, um, rock-something.  I can't remember what it's called, but apparently looked like a huge hedgehog once they got it out.  I'm glad he was there b/c I would have FREAKED OUT.

that's hilarious!  at least you got it out before it died.  i had a friend who had a rat die somewhere in her car and it stank for years.

Wow, well I have a story similar to that.  Our family dog (Basset Hound named Elvis) chewed up my mom's lexus.  He totally thrashed the right front tire and even made DENTS in the car surrounding the tire.  We are pretty sure an animal was somewhere near the tire (lizard, squirrel, whatever...he'll chase after anything).  Sorry to hear that happened to you...but I'm glad it wasn't as expensive as you thought it would be to get fixed!
