A little embarrassed
Permalink Closed

Hi everyone, Im new to the forum..but Im a guy! My girlfriend (I know you probably thought I was gay) told me that she has been getting a lot of good fashion tips from people on this forum. So I decided that I would see if I could get some help for myself in different areas. I need to buy some new clothes so I was wondering if any of you had some suggestions. Some things I like are American Eagle jeans, collared shirts (like Lacoste), and T-Shirts. But I dont want to look metrosexual or anything, so no pink shirts. Basically, tell me what you would want your boyfriend to wear. Any help is appreciated! Thanks

Yay! A boy to dress! I do this for all my guy friends and they promptly ignore me. I'm happy to see someone who is actually interested! I love this outfit from Banana Republic

I like Hugo Boss and Facconable (the orange label) for guys. (this is the younger looking collection)
Jeans:
Sevens or True Religion, they look great on guys.

Shoes:
Salvatore Ferragamo (classic and classy)

I would drool to see my guy in that outfit blubirde posted!

Bball23, it's kind of hard for me to work within the parameters you set.  Are you doing any specific shopping right now?  If so, where will you be wearing your clothes to (high school,  college, casual/corporate office...)?  What is your budget?  Are you looking for anything specific at the moment (need: jeans? tee's? shoes? sandals?)  Anything besides pink you hate?  What kind of music do you listen to (I find this often gives a clue on how one dresses)?

Sorry for the interegation, but it would be very helpful in a search.

Things Im looking for: Shirts, as in T-Shirts, dress shirts, collared shirts, etc. I'll be wearing them to school...I'm in college right now. I'd also wear them going out at night (college parties, bars, dinner dates, etc). My budget is not a big deal because I work a lot, but Im not looking to spend $200 on jeans or anything like that. The suggestion above from Banana Republic is exactly what Im looking for so that style and that price range is good. Besides pink, I dont hate much else...I dont want any sweaters or vests though. As for music, I like everything (I really do).

I am a huge fan of the preppy look on guys, not the abercrombie preppy look, but the Ralph Lauren/J.Crew look. If you like this look I can help, I have been dressing my BF for the past 6 years!

I think you should dress like Seth Cohen, if it would work for you. He's so hot.

Weird button downs are key for Seth...

Also sweaters...

Polos...

T-shirts...

Seth is mostly a jeans man, but on occaison he'll wear other pants...

I like Diesel jeans for guys. They're stylish, but not too gay.

Seth is a big fan of track jackets...

Retro-y sneakers...

This is what I would want to see a guy dress in. It may be completely not your style.

blubirde's suggestion is great- my BF dresses like that all the time and usually throws a blazer on to make it a little "dressy"

also, my BF loves 7 for All Mankind jeans for dressy looks and Chip and Pepper jeans for casual looks

Yay! Boys to dress!

I have to commend you for joining the forum and also for being pro-active about your fashion! I really wish more guys would have your attitude. Whoever your gf is, she's VERY lucky!

My boyfriend hold penguins close to his heart. I like to buy him alot of Penguin things. I think they are very classic but also hip. He's very non-fuss but still *tries* to be cool. I dont know what your body type is, but I think these thing would look good on alot of different styles. Plus cute PENGUINS!

More classic tennis clothes I love. LaCoste & Fred Perry.

i love maddie's picks.  i would also like to add that my friend was recently raving about the new diesel jeans he bought and how they were so comfortable while also making his skinny butt (a common male problem apparently) look good.

Welcome! I wish my bf was more interested in clothes! I think it would be sweet to ask your girlfriend to take you shopping. You said she's on the board, right? She probably knows a lot about your style/personality too, so she would be able to choose out some great stuff for ya! I think you should go to the following stores with your girl: urban outfitters, banana republic, j.crew, vintage stores (for fun t shirts and such), and saks/nordstoms/whatever is near you for jeans & such. I have to 3rd the suggestion on deisel denim for guys; I think they make guys look hot without looking like they're trying too hard. Just don't go for the crazy, nasty dark-brown washes. Those just look stupid on anyone. I also LOVE guys who wear blazers in a casual way. I have a good guy friend who is almost always wearing jeans, sneakers, a t-shirt and a blazer, and he always looks so good (and effortlessly casual)! Maybe you could visit their websites before you go to the stores; pick out what you want ahead of time. Have fun! And let us know what you pick out.
