P90X..Has anyone tried it?
Permalink Closed

So I just saw an infomercial for P90X. And I'm curious if any has ever tried this or know someone that has. Are the results as good as they look on tv?

I'm looking for something to really get my butt in shape before summer!!

Thanks

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that it is effective but I haven't really looked into it in depth as I think it might kill me - I think it takes a lot of discipline (which I lack unfortunately). The only complaint I've heard about the P90 systems is they can get boring but P90X seems to offer more variety.  I know that "BeachBody" - the company that makes it has a website and a forum for motivation and results which might be helpful?

My friend and her hubby bought it. They said its very intense...at least for someone who doesnt work out on a regular basis. They havent fully commited to the program yet, so I cant say if I've any results.

I started yesterday and I think I'm going to love it. It's very challenging but somehow also fun at the same time. I'm really bad about just doing cardio and skipping strength stuff so I think it will help me balance out my routine.
I did the plyometrics today and according to my heart rate monitor I burned over 600 calories in just over an hour!

I just talked to someone last night who is doing this.  It's hard, but the guy has lost 48 pounds!

Today was my fifth day and so far I love love love it. It somehow makes all of the things I hate the most about working out really fun (I generally loathe strength training). It helps that the videos use super fit people who've actually completed the program; it makes me want to work really hard so I can get the same results. Those girls are AWESOME, doing like 10 or 15 pull-ups unassisted, and they look great. They all have lean muscle and aren't bulky at all.
My only complaint so far is the yoga. Most of the moves are very repetitious - starting with plank, going to downward dog, to upward dog, to runner's pose, then to whatever other move. It's fun at first, and fairly difficult, but I got really bored after 30 minutes - and it's a 90 minute workout!
And as far as calorie burning, all the workouts are amazing. I've been burning between 500-700 calories in approximately an hour.
I'm really looking forward to continuing. It's hard but I think it's going to be so worth it and I can't wait to start seeing results. I definitely recommend it!

No problem!  I'm through my first week so I've done all of the Phase I workouts.  I did the kenpo x workout tonight, which is kinda like kickboxing and it's not my favorite.  It was fairly fun but it's supposed to be cardio but I had a really hard time keeping my heart rate up.  I forgot to check my average, but I'm thinking it was only about 130 - I only burned about 350 calories and the workout is about an hour.  I'm hoping that since I've been through it once and am familar with the moves I can find a way to make it more intense next time.

Plyo and the legs/back workout are my favorites so far.  They're both awesome!

Okay.   Initially, I had no idea what y'all were talking about.  All I knew was that it is exercise-related.  Well,  I saw the informercial tonight and totally want to try it!  I might see if my sister will go in on with me.  Looks great, and it's nice to hear from others who have tried it.  Any others?

I've been slacking a bit lately and only worked out about four times (as opposed to six) this week and three last week, but I'm still seeing results. I can almost do a pull-up, which doesn't sound like much but before I started I couldn't even get half way up. I've noticed a huge difference in the definition/strength in my arms, shoulders and legs. But most importantly the workouts are fun - I love every single one of them and they rotate frequently so there's no boredom. Starting tomorrow I'm going to try to workout in the morning before work instead of in the evening - less chance for interference. I'm going on vacation in mid may and I'd like to drop about five pounds before then!

Anyway, highly, highly recommend this. I love it. I got my BFF to do it too and she loves it as well. It's perfect; super-challenging but also fun.

Good to hear your review, TriSarahTops. Are you doing the food program too?

My husband got the program for his birthday. He started today and I'm going to start tomorrow. I'm hoping it'll be the kick in the pants that I need. I've been trying for months to try to get in better shape and I'm having such a hard time motivating myself at the gym. Like I'll go, but then I don't work out very hard, or I get bored after 20 minutes and leave. I'm hoping having the DVDs to follow will keep me motivated.
