Apartment question

Ok so I have a question....my husband and I are looking to move out of our current apartment and our lease is up on June 1 so we have decided to start looking early. Monday we went and looked at several complexes but the one that I had my eye on told him that they didn't have any available. This is what happened: Monday morning my husband calls the complex and asks the guy if he has any available (he was very polite by the way). The guy told him that the complex was very tight on availability and that he wouldn't have one ready to show until May 10. Oh, and he asked for my husband's name (first and last). Now, yesterday when I emailed the complex the manager lady wrote back saying that they have several available now and that she anticipates having some open around the time that we would be moving in. My question is, should we go in and confront the guy and his manager or just leave it alone. I'm thinking that he would remember my husband's name and if we turned in the applications he would reject us for whatever reason. I couldn't think of a reason why he would have lied to my husband.  I say we should try a different complex.  He thinks we should confront the guy and apply.  What do you guys think?

How badly do you want to live there?  If it's pretty badly I would continue dealing with the lady manager only.  I would tell her I really appreciate her help ask if we could deal with her directly and then casually mention that someone had given you conflicting information so you would like to stick solely with her through the process.  Maybe not in those words, but you catch my drift.

About this guy, either he doesn't have a clue, he was having a bad day and didn't feel like working, or helping anyone... who knows.  But I wouldn't spend too much energy worrying about him.  Rather I'd focus on achieving the main goal, which is getting an apt. there (only if that's what you really want).  If he acts up again once you're a tenant, you can safely and righteously report him to his management.

Alternately, maybe there really isn't anything available and the lady wants to keep you hanging in case something does become available.  I kind of get the feeling that something isn't available now but will be in May and maybe the two managers are different types of salespeople.  The man, the type that will tell you straight out there's nothing right now, and the lady, the type that may keep making and breaking appointments until end of April/beginning of May so that you don't move on to another apt. complex.  I know I'm not explaining myself well, but a similar situation would be if a salesman is on a sales call and the customer notices something they want to buy that really won't be available until May, the salesperson may say "sure, we have some ready now" just to close the sale and then have to keep making excuses as to why the product didn't show up yet, but if the person actually making the product was asked, they would have probably said, "no, it's not available until May."

OR maybe the woman just has more information than the guy does.

I think you should mention to the woman that someone else had told you there was nothing available and see what her reason is.

If you really want to live there, actually even if you don't, I'd definitely say something. I hate when people try to jerk you around, for whatever reason. I'd ask to speak to the manager and the female salesperson at the same time and explain what happened. (I'd only ask the female salesperson to sit in so she knows the situation too, and you don't have to explain it over and over again. I'd make clear to her and the manager that you were happy with her assistance.)

That said, I'm a bitch like that and a tad bit more aggressive than most people. Especially when it comes to apartment complexes. Next to tow people, landlords are the worst. I've never lived somewhere that I didn't have to fight with to get things fixed, get deposits back, etc.

Good luck!
