eyelash curler questions

I just got my first eyelash curler last night. But I am confused! Do I put mascara on before or after I curl? If I put it on before, do I let it dry for a minute or curl immediately after applying the mascara?

Well, I have techniques I use with an eyelash curler.

If I'm putting on fresh mascara, I heat the curler with my blow dryer for a few seconds (touch it to your wrist to test the heat first - the eyes are sensitive!)  Then I hold the curler in place for 20 seconds.  If I am without a blow dryer to heat it with, I warm the curler in my hands and hold it a little longer for like 30 seconds.  Put the mascara on immediately AFTER you curl.  The sticky mascara will help hold the curl in place.

NOW, for freshening up, I use the curler cold on my mascaraed lashes. Sometimes I pump the curler lightly so it doesn't make a bend in one spot. Sometimes I put a little extra mascara on after.  I only use this technique for night.

I hope that helps!  I would recommend becoming familiar with the curler prior to heating it, so start with a cold curler.  The reason I heat mine is that it sets the curl in place for longer.

I read you're not supposed to curl your lashes right after applying mascara because it rips them out.

I'm lazy, and don't like to get my blow dryer out just to heat up my lash curler, so I run it under hot water for a few seconds (just make sure it's not too hot before putting it near your eyes.)

I forgot to come back to this thread (I could have sworn I'd commented again, but obviously I haven't) - thanks for all your tips and tricks! I've been using it the past couple days and really like it!

I agree with everything D said. I use mine the exact same way. I never leave the house without curling my eyelash, swiping on a bit of mascara, and dabbing on at least a little lip balm. (I have blond everything so I look invisible without all of the above.)

My other suggestion, and I only use this on special occasions, is eyebrow gel. I have a darker brow control gel and for fancy nights out I dab a tiny bit on (put it on my fingers and blink it on, if that makes sense), let it dry a second or two, and then get my curl on. It acts sort of like an eyelash gel, if you will. I don't do it very often because it's much too time consuming, but it really does hold the curl a lot longer than normally, even longer than heating does. And no, it's never ripped out my eyelashes. wink.gif
