I'm in the process of trying to lose some weight (like 1-2 sizes).  First off, I'm having a hard time being motivated .  I've gotten into a rut where I feel exhausted after work and basically slack off going to the gym.  Besides being annoyed about that, I'm really dying to buy some new clothes.  Do I wait until I've lost weight, or buy the size I think I will be in a couple months?

I've had a lot of success with weight loss in the past, as I'm naturally athletic and once I get going I really love working out.  Food is my problem, I have a hard time bypassing things I want when I want them.

Any tips on motivation?  Diet recommendations for self-indulgent people?  Thanks

Hey girl,

Most of the time diets don't work until you are ready to work with them.  I have been wanting to finish losing my weight (10 pounds) for a few months now but haven't been in the diet mood and just haven't done anything about it.  That said when you are ready its best to have a game plan.  I usually do Weight Watchers and exercise 4-5 days a week.

The key to dieting though is eating in moderation and not starving or depriving yourself of something you like.  For a while I was hooked on the Ghiradelli chocolate carmels so I worked it into my WW diet and had one a day.  it was enough for me to stick with the diet and still eat.  During the summer months I eat a lot of fruits because they are sweet and kill the cravings I get.  Its all just a matter of finding what works for you.

I would stick with small goals.  Like 10 pounds (about 1 size) at first and just say I want to lose those 10 pounds and work on portion control and eating more healthy 95% of the time and having a small indulgence 5% of the time you know.  It will help you out and keep you motivated.

Now as far as buying new clothes go I would wait on most stuff.  You will quickly get frustrated like i do.  I buy new things and within a month they don't fit because I've lost weight.  I wouldn't buy clothes in a size you aren't now because they might not fit you like you think they will in a few months and you won't be able to easily return them so you'd actually be throwing money away.  Just sit tight and start small with a 10 pound or 1 size goal and go from there.

Diet Recommendation: I LOVE WW and it works well for the self-indulgent.  You can search for past posts or pm me about it if you want more info.  Dot is doing well on it right now (she's sticking with it more than me!). But if you really get into working out you won't have to worry about dieting because your muscles will burn everything off.

in college i took a nutrition class, and just for your information....lsubatgirl is right....WW is proven to be the most effective diet program from LONG TERM weight loss.  most doctors and nurses suggest that program because it has been proven to be most effective.  good luck!!!

Thanks for the advice.  I've actually been thinking about trying WW, I'll read the past posts on it
