Washing sneakers?

I have a pair of corduroy sneakers that have held up amazingly, but are filthy. Are sneakers generally machine washable? I'm also worried that even if they are they will grime up other things (ewk, who knows what the bottom of a shoe touches). Advice?

I had posted before about cleaning sneakers.  Someone suggested that I soak my sneakers in oxyclean in a sink.  I actually never got around to trying it, but I plan to!

You can wash sneakers.  I think my mom just puts them in an old pillow case and washes them like she would anything else.
