How Do You Get Over Something Too Pricey To Buy???
Permalink Closed

I just can't stop thinking about these jeans.  I look at them every day and today I stopped myself just short of submitting the order.  I can't find them on ebay; heck, I would even go for a knock-off just because I am so into the look.  These jeans are quintessential Drew.  I can afford them and still get other spring stuff, but I vowed not to spend $242 (I would get free shipping and no tax) on principal alone.  Such a crisis, right? hehe.  But, I don't know what to do or how to get them off my brain.  Help.

I know how you feel, I have so many items that I "visit" everyday. Most of the time I wait for an excuse to buy them, like they went on sale, or a coupon code expires soon...

As for the jeans, I am sure more online boutiques will be carrying them soon, and they usually offer around 20% off. HTH

When I find something  I really like, I wait for a week or so and then see if it's still on the top of my list.  Sounds like you've been wanting them for a while.  If you can afford them, order them.  Try them on (that may help you determain if you REALLY like them on you or just the look on the model) as long as there returnable, there's really no risk.   You can try them on with other things in your closet and then determain, will you get $240 worth of wear out of them.  This is usually what I do anyway.  Good Luck.

If you love them that much and can afford them, they're a good purchase even if they are expensive.  But, like Rocky said, if you can wait, they'll probably turn up at Shopbop and you can snag them when you have a code.  20% off would save you like $50.  That would make them around $200, which is a little more bearable but isn't a huge discount.  If instant gratification is more important to you than 50 bucks (it would be to me) just go for it now.

I know you're asking how to get over them and I am enabling, but it's obvious that you love them.  I think that you should just buy them since you can afford them.  I'm not much help!

Truth be told - if you are going to wear them a lot - then they are worth it. Look at the cost per wear vs. the total cost - that is how I rationalize bigger purchases.

I would wait until they go on sale and in the meantime look at the jeans you already have and try to reinvigorate them. Or use the mantra "I do not need anymore jeans, I do not need anymore jeans, I do not need anymore jeans..." I do this all the time with jeans and purses, then if you wait on it and find them on sale and still love them just as much as you did initially -go for it.

If there is something really pricey I want, I check to see if its on Ebay first, and set up a search for a month to see if I can find it cheaper.  I am a total Ebay whore.

my motto is that i would rather buy one amazing $100+ top than 4 just ok $25 tops.

i have learned that for me, it's better to buy 1 thing that i really really love...so maybe instead of buying two pairs of jeans, you can invest in this one great pair.  or you can wait for a coupon (but i'm not that great at waiting).

The only way for me to get over it is to buy it.  And you know what?  Half the time I return it anyway.  Things are very often not the stuff of your fantasy.  And if they are, you'll get great cost-per-wear.  I do agree about maybe waiting a bit for a code, but I also agree with shopgirl about the worth of a pricey item every once in a while.

I agree with dc wholeheartedly.  If I want it I usually buy it.  I either get a ton of wear out of it so ROI is great or I return it.  With the way that I wear jeans I would definitely get my wear out of them.  I love them too, I'm think of making them part of my summer uniform:).

If you can afford them and still be able to get the other spring stuff you really want, I would say go for it.  Now, I would not get them if every time you looked at them you think, "If I hadn't bought those jeans I could have bought such and such...".  But, if you can get them and it not prevent you from other things you want, I say hit that "submit order" button.

the easiest (and best) way may just be to buy them see how they work with your wardrobe, and if you don't wear them return them. i do this sometimes and it works (for the most part).

This probably won't help - but I ordered these today during their Hip Event (as I mentioned to you in another post).  I really wanted a pair of nice jeans to be my summer staple jean and these won.  Though I must say the TRs come close.... and I'm really feeling the patchwork ones, but that's another story.  This is the most I've ever paid for a pair of jeans.  But to me it's worth it if I get enough wear out of them, they always look hot and I don't buy a bunch of other pairs that are nowhere as cool.

I say get them and get them soon before all the small sizes are gone.  The SA today had to call three stores before she found a pair of 25s anywhere.   Also, this wash is exclusive to Neimans, so the chances of getting a coupon code for % off are VERY slim.  They will go on sale, that I can guarantee - but if I know Neimans probably not until June or so and then the chances of scoring a small size will be even slimmer.

Get them - sell some stuff on ebay & scrimp in other areas to help justify your purchase.  But get them, they're hot!!!  I will def. post a review as soon as they hit my doorstep

I freaked out over buying my TR Joeys at $172 and I totally feel your pain. I consider it a worthwhile purchase, though because it was a pair of jeans I had really coveted for a while before buying. And then they fit so nicely that I couldn't put them down. I still wear them all the time and consider them to be well worth their value.

I would get them and see if you're really as enamored with them IRL. I find a lot of times, I'll see things online that look like crap in person or I'll buy something from a B&M that I would've never eyeballed online. If you really love it, $242 for a pair of jeans that is made for you isn't that terrible, right? (because then you'd never buy any other pair of jeans again)

Okay, I am going to have to renig on my thoughts of the jeans.  I really do like them, but after having a really good heart to heart with my bf he really helped me to realize that even though I can afford them that doesn't mean that I should buy them.  They are very trendy and I wouldn't wear them as much as the only pair of designer jeans that I have paid full price for (my pink A Pockets) because they aren't as dressy.  When he said that to me a light went on.

Yes I wear designer jeans, but out of the 10+ pairs that I own I have only paid full price for that one pair!!  That made me realize that I am not ready to drop that kind of cash on those jeans because the reason that I own so many pairs is because I was smart about buying them.  They are super hot and I love the destroyed look, but not for $242.  I found these instead.  They are not quite the same thing, but they are really cool, they are destroyed and I won't feel guilty spending $120 at all.  Whatever decision you make, just make sure that it makes you happy and it makes sense to the only person that matters - you!

Drew if you're looking for something comparable that will kill the craving, check out Hollister.  I was just there last night after seeing some cute jeans of theirs in the new Cosmo.
Anyway, they have tons of destroyed jeans right now.  If the sevens don't work out when they arrive, I'll definitely go back here.
This flower pair is cool, $90:

One of the things that drew me to the super destroyed Havanas was the placement of the distress.  This pair is comparable and only $80:

HTH some!

I really appreciate all the input, ladies.  Exactly where you are coming from is where my original post came from, Farrah.  Unfortunately, Vanessa has some amazing powers of persuasion (not to mention you other girls egging me on ;P), and  I bought the jeans this morning.  I can't stand the thought of them selling out in my size and not even getting the opportunity to try them on.

As for the jeans you posted, Farrah, I know them well (Mrs. Federline famously wore them for seemingly weeks on end when they came out - I guess this is the updated version).  Actually, I had a pair of their original super destroyed jeans from at least three plus years ago (they were sold with a crochet type long tie belt), and I loved them until they were unwearable.  I still have them, but the holes in the knees are gaping at this point with no threads at all covering them.  I can't throw them away because I practically lived in them and they are like a good memory for me.

I guess that's why I ordered the Sevens.  I love them like I loved my A&F's (a mere $78 or so back in the day -which I thought was tres expensive at the time) and I know I will love them always (so long as they fit me like the model), so whatever, I got them.

I can't tell my SO though.  After I saw the jeans Vanessa posted I went home and -ever so exasperated- went into a huff venting to SO about how ridiculous clothing manufacturer's are these days and what nerve they have to charge $240 for a pair of jeans.

Drew- can you post pics or a review when you get them.  I like how they look really soft and slouchy in the pic and want to know how they fit IRL.
