this top and skirt?

I really like this top: Product Image I have a Gap skirt that I just bought a month ago.  It is not on their site anymore, but it is brown silk with a pink band at the bottom.  I have had problems finding a top to go with it that I am happy with.  Do you this this top would work style-wise?  The reason I ask is because the skirt is a-line (I think) and I have heard that with flowing tops you need more tailored skirts, and vice-versa.  I plan to wear a cardigan with the bottom of this top peeking out.

If you

are you talking about the pleated skirt that was in their ads, that is chocolate brown with the pink band around the bottom? if so, i don't think it would work style-wise.  if the top were just a bit shorter and less flow-y at the bottom, it would be very cute with it.

something like this would work better with that top, i think

I would say no with the a-line skirt.  The basic reasoning I always go with is to do the opposite on bottom of what you have on top.  The shirt is a-line (if you look at it, not by definition) so an a-line skirt won't work, you need something slim like a pencil skirt.  The skirt would be much better suited to a fitted top.

I think I'll have to say no also. It could wind up looking really shapeless. However, I do think if you are wearing a fitted cardigan over the top and button it a bit this outfit could work because the shape of the top won't be visible. So if you can wear this top with other skirts (and obviously it would work with jeans and pants) and you really like it, you should get it. But if you are really only buying this top to go with that Gap skirt, I think you should keep looking.

Thanks everyone.  I kind of had a feeling it wouldn't work.  I am having the most trouble with that skirt.
