i have two of these vintage short kimonos (called "hapi coats" sometimes, i think) that i used to wear as robes when i was a kid.  they still fit, more like jackets now than robes, and they are so beautiful--both are vibrant turquoise with floral patterns.

could i work these into outfits that would look cool, or would i look like some kind of sad norma desmond-type if i attempted to wear them out of the house? be honest--i am just trying to figure out if/how i could wear them in real life, but i'm not totally set on doing so.

here's a pic of one being sold on ebay...

I think it would be either really cute or absolutely hideous... would have to see how it looked put together and what the fit is like.

Do they have a tie around the waist?  If not, I'd find someway to make them not so boxy looking.

I think you could find a way to work them.  I'd just put them on and try them w/ all your bottoms, I bet you'd find something that worked.

they do have a little tie, like a bathrobe belt.  i was thinking to wear it with jeans and some kind of wedge sandal with a tank underneath.  does anyone have suggestions on how to style it? i am so on the fence...i don't want to look like a fashion victim.

just to clarify, it's NOT this particular one in the pic--that is an example that i found on ebay that isn't as pretty as the ones i have.

I would say next time you have a day off play around and experiment. I bought something similar awhile ago that I ended up returning, but I say on the right figure/personality it could totally work.

I think that sounds really cute. It's definitely something that you'll just have to try on to see how it works. Maybe wear it out running errands on the weekend and see if you feel comfortable or if you feel like Norma Desmond.

I think you could totally rock them, although it would depend on hwo the kimonos fit you. I liek your outfit ideas.

If you are confident, you can totally pull it off. What a beautiful idea!
