Recently people have been telling me that I need to get a new haircut. In particular, that I should get choppy layers or long side-swept bangs. I don't really like cuts that are shaggy or trendy or anything, plus my hair is a horrible pain in the ass. It's half curly (the bottom layers) and maybe 1/4 wavy and 1/4 straight. And it gets super frizzy in the summer. So I really only have my hair like this because I don't have many other options. I'm afraid if I cut bangs it will be a disaster this summer, when even obsessive blowdrying and flat-ironing can't de-frizz/un-curl some sections of my hair.
Any ideas? It looks pretty much like this now.
Oh and I don't want to color/highlight it and I want to keep it at least a few inches below my shoulders.
I would, firstly, stay far far away from 'hairstyle' magazines. I've always gotten pics of my haircuts out of Lucky, so I would suggest either going through all your mags to find a cut you like or going to the bookstore and perusing the mags there until you find something you like. When I get my hair cut, I also don't 'do' it that day so the stylist can see the natural texture.

cc, you are so pretty- you look like kirsten dunst in that picture. also LOVE your hair color- is that natural?
i think that you would look great w/long side swept bangs. not too short in case they frizz but maybe just starting at your mouth or even your chin. and some other layers in front below that. maybe keep the back very subtly layered for some texture?
Awww, thanks Mara. That picture is of me in my special "Southern day at the races" outfit in Louisville. That's my natural hair color. It's sort of dark blonde but it's been getting more and more red in recent years. I kind of like the color and I'm so bad about getting my hair tended to so I'd never be able to deal with the upkeep of highlights.
I guess I could always try long bangs since by the time summer rolls around and the frizz kicks in they'll be long enough to pull back in case it's a disaster.
I would look in magazines and try to find some hairstyles. Since you do look like Kirsten dunst maybe you should check out some of her hairstyles. Also, I don't know if you like them or not but in my opinion side swept bags are a pain. I got them last summer, thought they were cool @ first but now they are just getting in the way. And no matter if i flat iron them or what they have like a flip @ the end, so now i always pin them back. But this is just my experience.
cc--are you set on long hair? because if you watched the episode of "the oc" that was on last night, the new cut marissa was sporting would be so cute on you. it was just a bit shorter than shoulder length and somewhat curlier around the ends. it kind of looks like she has combo straight/wavy hair that is meduim weight, not overly-thick (which is what yours sounds like it is?). anyway, i thought the cut was so great on her and also it's not a super-trendoid style or anything that would be incredibly hard to grow out either.
I just got my hair cut today- it was similar to yours in texture and length but darker. I took in this picture and was really happy with the results. It's layered all over, but blended into the back with long layers so that I don't look like i have a mullet with way short layers in the back. There are also the shorter pieces by the face- I had originally wanted long bangs but now i'm so glad i didnt get them- my hair frizzes easily. anyway, I am really happy- yay!
