Am I sabatoging my diet?
Permalink Closed

I live next door to this wonderful Japanese restaurant. They have a great deal on a chicken terryaki lunch box: it comes with grilled chicken in terryaki sauce, a small salad, 4 pieces of a california roll, two fried dumplings, and a ton of white rice. I've made a habit of getting the lunch box 3-4 times a week and finishing most of it - I try to take it easy on the white rice. I also try to make the rest of my meals during the day small: I'll have half a Luna bar for breakfast, a piece of fruit and some almonds an hour or so before dinner time, a lean cuisine pizza and veggies for dinner, and some pudding and/or oreo thin crisps for dessert. I also work out (cardio and weights) at least 5 times a week. And - I guess I should add this - I drink a decent amount, usually on Friday and Saturday nights.

Anyway...back to my original question. Is eating a big lunch most days of the week bad? I've read in various magazines that it's better to eat a lot during the day as opposed to at night, because the body is able to burn off more of the food. What do you girls think?

I'm trying to lose a couple pounds and tone up my mid section...now that I've written it all out, I think the drinking may be the cause of me not realizing this goal...

i think cutting the drinking is a better idea than cutting the lunch.  it doesn't sound THAT bad & it's during the day like u said which is so much better than eating a big dinner.  can u sub w/ brown rice?  i dunno if that makes much of a diff, but just sounds healthier.  good luck w/ the weight loss!

definitely beware of the drinking because a lot of times after one drinks they eat something before bed, or more than they would when they wake up (and also may skip out on exercise the next day).  but i agree, brown rice would be better, but teriyaki sauce may also be the culprit depending on how much they but on (it has a lot of sugar).  i would ask to go light on the teriyaki sauce.  and maybe steamed dumplings instead of fried.  sorry i just killed your lunch.  but if you are burning a lot of calories, you need a lot of calories when you work out.  so depending on what you do for your workout, the meal may be ok.

Now that I am dieting, I am super conservative when I eat out.  Could you ask for the teriyaki sauce on the side?  And possibly skip the fried dumplings?  That way you could cut out some calories and control the amount of sauce on your chicken.  I believe that teriyaki sauce has lots of sugar in it.

And of course, lay off the alcohol.

HA!  As soon as I wrote this I read shopgirl's post - I guess we pretty much say the same thing!
