Jewelry question...please ease my obsession
Permalink Closed

So I saw this ring on somebody this week and I have become unhealthily obsessed with it. I am almost positive that it was this ring (or very close to it). Does anybody know enough about diamonds to estimate about how much this beauty costs? The diamond realistically doesn't have to be that large (it can be half that size)...but please ease my mind!

Price is sooo dependent on the 4C's and where you get it.

I would check Blue Nile. I saw they have a similar setting only for $1600.  Then you add the price of the center stone and that an be anywhere from really cheap to the sky's the limit.

Would this be for an engagement ring?

The size and quality of the center stone is going to greatly impact price.

I'd guess that ring is probably somewhere around $20k.

The website had the specs so I recreated that ring at bluenile (or as close as I could).

The estimated price there is $23,630 for the center diamond at a color of E (other specs were the same as the one in the ring above which has a D for color).

For a platinum band with .6ctw of sidestones it is about $3,800 but the band isn't as thick as the one you picked.

Total would be almost $27,500 for something similar, but with a little worse color in the middle diamond. I have found bluenile to have fairly reasonably diamond prices.

I showed it to my fiance, who likes jewelry, and who gave me a three carat pear shaped diamond engagement ring, and so he was curious and called to find out the price.  $43,500.  shocked.gif

Wow that is a lot. Now Domino, your ring was less than that but with more carats?

It is a solitaire, without any side stones.  Plain platinum band.  Really sparkly, high quality, (VVS1?), but is a J color, which made it much more affordable.  When you go up to a D color, the price is significantly higher.  Not sure of the price he paid. I know he negotiated heavily for it, and was happy with the price he got.  I love it.

Platinum setting

$9,975 @ Shane Company

That's just what they have online, of course!  You could always buy the diamond somewhere else and have it set there (the setting itself is only $1k).  I like that they have everything loose/unmounted so you can mix and match as you please - I got my ring there and got a much larger diamond set the way I wanted for more than $1k cheaper than anywhere else.

I think you'd have much better luck going somewhere in person to see what they have or could do for you ....
