Why do they exist?
Permalink Closed

So, during my interneting today I have wondered twice why teo items exist.

I'm not talking about having spotted a hideous pair of shoes, but general items that I can't wrap my brain around.

It got me to wondering what other items don't make senses to people.

Mine:

-white bras. I have yet to find a purpose for one. You can't wear it under white, and I live in fear that in the right light my bra will glow from under my shirt. I just wonder why they even bother to make them

-diamonds set in silver. I found the perfect bracelet today that was styled so that it could be worn everyday. It wasn't too diamondy. It was set in silver, and I wondered why. Call me old fashioned, but diamonds belong in gold.

Anyone else want to play?

- why the heck do crosswalks signs exist when pedestrians don't even bother paying attention to the rules of when there's a red hand up that means "NO WALKING"!!!!!!!

sorry, I had to stop traffic making a right today because a dummy decided to do that!

-cigarettes. they are legal but they kill the smoker and the one's around them. get your teeth yellow and wrinkle faster. yuck.

sorry if any of you smoke.

-peep toe boots. I have yet to fully understand how or when anyone would ever wear them. Or why.

The white bra thing gets me, too. Granted, I have a couple white bras. But they're lacey junk, and I guess I can understand that a lot more (I mean, I will buy a pink or purple or blue bra because it's a fun color, and I like white so that's a fun color for me too). But the smooth, seamless bras meant to be worn under thin shirts - why make those white? It can't be part of beautifying the design, because those aren't pretty bras to begin with. They're utilitarian!

Ha - I personally think diamonds set in yellow gold are ugly!  Silver looks the same as white gold which looks the same a platinum (at least to me), so I think it's a modern look, and one that reduces the price of a piece nicely too!

Tati - I'll see your red-hand-means-no-walking and raise you this - cross walks that exist without the benefit of an intersection (even though there is one 25 yards away) where cars are just supposed to stop randomly in the street to let people who feel like crossing at the obscure crosswalk go.  We have a few of these downtown, when I believe they were intended to span roads were there was no other logical place to put one and people needed to cross.  Downtown.  Where there's a crosswalk on every single block.

I wouldn't call diamonds set in yellow gold ugly, but it isn't my style.
I can understand the idea of reducing price, but I think of diamond jewelry as something I'll have forever. When I think of 'grandma's silver' I think of silverware, not a necklace!

ttara, I hear ya on the peep boots.

Veggie burgers with bacon.

Fruit juices with sugar (or applesauce, for that matter). Fruit is already sweet. If it isn't sweet, it's inferior or unripe, so don't process it and sell it to me.

- dangling suspenders?
- mittens - i mean i can't do anything with my fingers are wrapped together
- wire-only bras.

i have to disagree on the diamond setting in silver [tone]. I think of most diamonds having a cool undertone, so white gold and platinum is my preferred choice. i don't think I've ever seen a diamond set in sterling silver if that's what was meant?

this is random and i'm not sure if it fits here but here goes...

i'm not sure which cleaning product i saw this on, but i think it was something to remove mildew.. like scrubbing bubbles...

it said "please use in a well ventilated area" well, if it were well ventilated, there wouldn't be mildew, so is it suicidal/dangerous to use the product???

I don't get those Ugg handbags at all.  The ones lined with shearling...just don't know why someone would need that at all or what is attractive about them.

ViVi, I did mean diamonds set in Sterling Silver. I love them in white metals, but I think a fine stone deserves fine metal. It kills me when I see a diamond with a clarity/color rating set in sterling.

Su, I've never seen a veggie burger offered with bacon. But, it does infuriate me when I'm at a Mexican restaurant and I order the veggie option and after taking a bite of the beans/rice I can taste lard/pork/chickenbroth. The vegetarian special with non-veg sides doesn't do me much good.

I was just thinking about that yesterday! I bought that damn shower scrubbing bubbles stuff and I was reading the directions and thought "well ventilated area? In a shower? "

I thought of this yesterday...

- A toilet lid cover. Why would you want to have a cover for the lid that covers the toilet? My mom had them when I was little and I accidentally peed on it in the middle of the night cuz I was still half asleep! :/

One of my college roommates worked in a campus cafeteria and the gardenburger with bacon was their most popular item. We could never figure that one out.

Italian restaurants are bad about that, too. Since I don't eat eggs I can't usually have pasta, so I try for risotto - but they all seem to make it with chicken stock instead of vegetable stock.

And now back to our regularly scheduled program:

I could never understand clear purses. Unless you visit a lot of prisons or something, why would you want everyone to see what you're packing?

Interesting. Almost every guy I've ever dated has had a real thing for white bras, and I've always liked them. They look and feel clean to me. Diff't strokes, I guess :)

I second the clear purses, and add Clear Shoes. They make your toes look squished, and I always think they must look disgusting if you wear them for any length of time. Yick.

Several department stores require employees to have a clear purse to prevent inside theft. You can buy one from them usually but I used to look for them other places so my bag didn't look like everyone else's. Sadly, there are also several public schools that won't let kids bring a bag at all unless it is see through, mesh or clear for security purposes.

So noted! A way better explanation than prison visits.
