My favorite restaurant in the world is Chez Rene on boulevard Sant Germain in Paris... best meal I've ever had in my life...

locally, I'd have to say Red Coat Tavern in Royal Oak for burgers or a cobb salad...

another local favorite is Blue Nile for Ethiopian food... you eat with your fingers with this spongy bread and they serve you with these wonderful little piles of mashed beans and vegetables... washed down with mead (honey wine) - I just love it - I love the sensual nature of eating with your hands (the proper way is to feed each other) and the honey wine to wash it down - I love the flavors and smells and just the whole experience... they used to have a location in Detroit in an old shopkeepers apartment with a fireplace - you sit on these little cushioned wicker stools and your table is a wicker pedistal that they sit the tray of food on (there are little wooden tables next to the stools to set your drinks on... unfortunately that has closed due to the casinos but they have locations in Ferndale and Ann Arbor...

Another favorite for a fancy meal is The Whitney in Detroit. http://www.thewhitney.com/

mmmm. just can't beat a red coat tavern burger... i miss them. i used to work in royal oak so it was often a lunch spot for me, but i haven't been there in years.

favorite meal of all time was at Longhi's in Lahaina, Maui. open air two story restaurant with an ocean view and a view of the island of Lanai. the entire menu was spoken to us (no traditional paper menu) by the most amazing looking woman with an exotic accent and the most beautiful voice i've ever heard. i wanted one of everything on the menu. the food was wonderful, but the expereince and atmosphere of this place was truly remarkable.

i don't know if this is my favorite local restaurant, but i've certainly been craving a good middle eastern meal from al-raushee in royal oak. i miss that lunch spot too.

Jen, I love Olive Garden too. I try to be too cool for it, but I just can't resist. In the summer I'm a camp counselor in th middle of nowhere and it's like the only restaurant around so we go every weekend. Those unlimited breadsticks....mmmm....

It's hard to narrow down my favorite restaurants because I am not a picky eater but I do love PF Chang's, even though I always get the same thing, crispy honey shrimp, chicken lettuce wraps and banana spring rolls for dessert

I also like this little "country good food" place in lower Delaware, it is rumored the owner is a former drug lord but oh well, it's called Jimmy's and they have the best yeast rolls in the world. It's the closest to the south I get.

And Detroit mentioned Ethiopian food and I went to an Ethopian restaurant in Philly last weekend, called Meskerem and had the best time ever. The spongy bread is great! I didn't even notice I was eating with my fingers. It will soon become one of my favorites as well.

Are you kidding me?!  My family has been going to Chez Rene on every visit to Paris since I was a baby!  It is, like, a part of our family lore.  It is also one of my favorites in the world!  Even though I am a veg, they are even very nice about making me a yum veg plate.   And their goat cheese salad.... simple but perfect.

So last time she was in Paris, my sister brought us each back a bottle of their private label wine.  Maybe you and I should drink it when you're in DC!

wow - how wild! of all the places in the world... I was wondering how you fared there with the vegetarianism (I love their Boeuf Bourguignon)... it is - such simple food and ingredients, but so perfectly prepared... Definitely! I would love to have some next week!

It is simply the most delicious, innovative food I've ever had. aw, why hate? I used to work at an Applebee's back in 1994, I am still loyal to the place, they have a great Santa Fe Chicken Salad and Bourbon Street Steak!

I like chain restaurants because when you go on a road trip, you know what to expect with price and menu when you stop to eat dinner along the interstate.

My favorite restaurant in Dallas is Pappas Steakhouse.

My favorite all around chain is PF CHANGS and Outback!!  I eat at a LOT of chains and these two are the best!

DC and Detroit - please tell me more about Chez Rene (favorite dishes, ambience, price, etc)!  I will be in Paris at the end of April and would love to check it out.

My favorite restaurants of the moment:

Minneapolis - Lucia's for delicious, fresh, interesting American fare and Ike's for yummy burgers and the most delicious steak salad.

New York - Craft.  I have only been there once but it is one of the best meals of my life and I am dying to go back.

San Francisco - Straits Cafe for fantastic Singaporean food and yummy martinis.  I could sit and eat their roti prata (flatbread dipped in curry sauce) all day and all week.

And Chipotle!  My bf and I eat there at least once a week - we go through withdrawal if we don't eat there enough.  I'm also a sucker for Olive Garden although I try not to admit that to too many people

Django in Phialdelphia. But don't start flocking there. It's hard enough to get a table as it is!
